Project Associate for Outreach contributes to LIRS Outreach team by supporting and promoting education, advocacy and communication efforts. These key constituents include Lutherans, migrants, refugees, and communities of faith. The Project Associate will manage inbound communications (via phone and email) and provide referrals for information, advocacy activities, and volunteer opportunities. S/he will maintain contact lists in the Salesforce database and follow up with connections made. Participates in planning and executing Outreach unit events, such as the Migrant and Refugee Leadership Academy, organizes and prepares webinars and team meetings, and supports other LIRS conferences.

Started by Lutheran congregations in 1939, Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS) is a national organization walking with migrants and refugees through ministries of service and justice, transforming U.S. communities by ensuring that newcomers are not only self-sufficient but also become connected and contributing members of their adopted communities in the United States. Working with and through partners across the country, LIRS resettles refugees, reunites children with their families or provides loving homes for them, conducts policy advocacy, and pursues humanitarian alternatives to the immigration detention system.

  1. Excellent relational skills in person and via phone and email.
  2. Experience in customer service or constituent relations preferred.
  3. Tact and discretion in dealing with personal information and sensitive issues.
  4. Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills
  5. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) required and proficiency in other programs (SalesForce, Raiser's Edge) preferred

Summary of Skills Needed:

  1. Tracking, monitoring and reporting to team the volunteer inquiry process.
  2. Tracking statistics required by Outreach team and Monitoring and Evaluation department.
  3. Appreciation and respect for Lutheran beliefs and values, church member motivations and sensitivities.
  4. Commitment to standing with and advocating for migrants and refugees.
  5. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  6. Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
  7. Ability and willingness to travel occasionally.

Duties:

1) Management of constituent contacts

• Manage external email accounts

• Manage inbound calls

• Keep excellent contact records in appropriate database(s)

• Help connect constituents to opportunities

• Keep colleagues current on what constituents are asking & sharing

2) Coordination of event marketing

• Research events and maintain event marketing calendar

• Manage logistics for events

• Assist in materials production for events

• Represent LIRS at events

• Follow up with people met at events

3) Support volunteer coordination

• Manage aspects of volunteer recruitment, referrals, and follow up

• Maintain contact records and contribute to reporting and planning

• Support advocacy campaigns and opportunities

4) Support for communications activities

• Assist in developing, distributing, reporting about communications

• Contribute to social media content

• Edit web pages

• Contribute to story collection and development

• Conduct research including interviews

5) THE PROJECT

• Manage a special project aligned with one or more of the actions above that is both appropriate for your strengths and organization needs. 6) Engagement in ongoing professional development.

7) Engagement in agency –wide activities and initiatives including all-staff meetings,

working groups or task forces and implementation of strategic initiatives.

8) Other duties as assigned by supervisor.
