826NYC hosts school groups for on-site writing Field Trips on weekday mornings, Monday – Friday. During these high-energy, collaborative storytelling projects, students work together to create an original story and then finish the last page of the stories on their own. Every student leaves with a published book after just two hours! Field trips are always in need of enthusiastic volunteers to make the storytelling and bookmaking experience come to life. We are always looking for new artists to live-illustrate our field trips, typists, and charismatic leaders to facilitate the writing process. If that's not your thing, or you're just more of the shy type, we'd love you to join our diligent behind-the-scenes printing and bookbinding team.
Field trips take place Monday – Friday mornings at our Park Slope center from 10:00am to 12:30pm.
826NYC is a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. Our services are structured around our belief that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success. With this in mind we provide after-school tutoring, field trips, workshops, and temporary and ongoing in-schools writing-based programming. All of our free programs are challenging and enjoyable, and ultimately strengthen each student's power to express ideas effectively, creatively, confidently, and in their individual voice.
