KID Museum is an experiential learning space for children and families in the Washington, D.C. area. With a focus on elementary and middle school-aged youth, KID Museum’s core purpose is to inspire the next generation of innovators and empower youth to invent the future with imagination, resourcefulness, and compassion.

VISTA project will build the capacity of KID Museum by creating and implementing outreach programming in undeserved communities. One of our key strategies is ensuring we serve children and families from across the socioeconomic-spectrum by developing curricula and programs that can be implemented in local schools and community centers. Ultimately, the outreach program will contribute to poverty alleviation in two ways:

(1) by ensuring KID Museum’s programs are accessible and engaging for low-income children who urgently need high-quality, out-of school-time enrichment programs that can help strengthen their academic performance and workforce readiness;

(2) by increasing community engagement in STEM with the recruitment and training.

AmeriCorps VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) members bring their passion and perseverance where the need is greatest: to organizations that help eradicate poverty. The most pressing challenges we face as a nation require the most courageous and creative people to address them. An AmeriCorps VISTA member serves as a catalyst for change, living and working alongside community members to advance local solutions.
