We are grateful for our tremendous team of volunteers and are hoping to add 2 more to our Thursday afternoon roster!
St. Augustine Academy is currently seeking volunteers for its upcoming 2018-2019 program year. The mission of SAA is to build character, instill a positive sense of self, and provide tangible life skills through a creative curriculum of arts exploration, academic reinforcement, and emotional learning. SAA provides a safe, stable environment where students practice respect for self and others, exercise appropriate interactions with peers and adults, discover new skills and talents, and develop tools that will allow them to achieve greater success in school and beyond. We serve up to 30 girls in grades 2 through 4.
SAA meets Monday - Thursdays from 3:00 until 6:00pm. Each day consists of meal time, gentle stretching and breathing exercises, 45 minute small group arts-based activities, and homework/academic enrichment time.
Volunteer responsibilities include sitting with a group during meal time and facilitating conversations, encouraging engagement during stretching, providing support to teaching artists during activities, helping with homework or leading learning games, and above all, providing positive mentorship and building nurturing relationships with students.
Volunteers may choose one or two days of the week to volunteer, but we ask that all volunteers commit to that day on a weekly basis and do their best to miss no more than 5 out of the 30 weeks of programming.
Our 2018-2019 program year kicks off on Wednesday, October 4th and concludes on Thursday, May 31st. No programming is held when school is out of session for professional development or holidays.
