More than 50% of Guatemala’s population live in extreme poverty. The Guatemala’s government investment in education is only 2.9% of the annual budget. These and other reason explain why Ninos de Guatemala exists in the communities of Ciudad Vieja and San Lorenzo El Cubo, just outside Antigua, Guatemala.
Ninos de Guatemala supports 500 children offering high quality education, psychological support, and school for parents through our social workers.
We have been receiving volunteers who support our mission since the organization was founded in 2006. Volunteer experiences are life-changing for all - the volunteer as well and the community being supported.
The objective of a volunteer trip program is to involve enthusiastic volunteers in community-based service projects, and to give volunteers opportunities to learn and work with the communities. Together, this fosters an experience where both participants and the local community members are exposed to alternative forms of living. Being completely immersed into diverse environments enables participants to experience, discuss, and understand social issues in a significant way; encouraging a broader understanding of the world and our role within the global context of development.
“Groups” are a minimum of 6 volunteers who come to volunteer, learn from the Guatemalan culture, and go on wonderful adventures together.
