Description

The role of the volunteer will be assisting local teachers in holding English language classes. The volunteer will motivate and encourage the students to practice the foreign language they are learning. Intercultural learning activities in the form of dialogue, music and games could give the students a better understanding of other countries and cultures.

The High School Education in Indonesia is divided into two educational levels: secondary (age 12–15) and senior high school (age 15–17). These schools are implementing the national curriculum standard as their compulsory activities. Therefore, the students take compulsory classes such as Math, science, languages, religion, physics, etc. In senior high school, the students are given more varied program such as science, social studies or language classes. The schools would like to collaborate with international volunteers to support their foreign language program. Moreover, the involvement of volunteers provides extra activities in order to boost students’ interest in music, art, sport and technology. Most of the schools are located in urban centers.

The volunteer will be introduced to the Indonesian culture and customs in general, with a special focus on the local particularities. Some cultural visits are also foreseen.

Duration of the project: The volunteer placements are from 1 to 4 months.
