Description

If you are looking for an alternative kind of program to learn Arabic, then look no further than our Teach English and Learn Arabic Program (TELA). We offer Arabic classes for people who are committed to learning the Arabic language. We offer you this program while you are also teaching English conversation courses in our center.

Participants will take courses in dialect or modern standard Arabic for 3-15 hours per week, in a professional setting and with a curriculum that has been designed to compliment the Arabic immersion experience. You will be learning the vocabulary and phrases you will need to use on a daily basis while living in an Arabic speaking society. This approach will help you to learn to speak Arabic more quickly. Participants will then be able to further develop their Arabic language skills through volunteer work. Classes are available for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels.

This program is perfect for internationals who wish wish to improve their spoken/oral/conversational Arabic skills and build their vocabulary quickly. You will have ample opportunity to learn about everyday life for Palestinians and visit interesting and historical places in Palestine

With increasing international work opportunities in areas like business and higher education, Palestinians are eager to develop their English language skills. They hear it often on TV and in music but they hardly ever have the chance to practice speaking English. As a volunteer teacher, you will have a positive impact on the students you teach and the city of Hebron.

Volunteer teaching will provide you with the opportunity to learn about Palestine. We encourage our volunteers to experience all dimensions of Palestinian and Hebron culture during their time with La Casa. Even though we work hard at La Casa, there is plenty of time in the evenings and weekends to experience Palestine and visit nearby cities such as Bethlehem, Jerusalem, Jericho and Ramallah.

This experience is available to anyone with an interest in helping others to learn the English language, teaching others about your own culture and assisting in youth development programs. We do not require that you have any previous teaching experience and or that you take a TEFL course. Whether you want to volunteer during your winter/spring break, gap year, extended vacation or as a volunteer vacation, you will have an important role to play and your efforts will be greatly appreciated. If you are a student in a university, we will gladly assist you in acquiring internship (academic) credits for your work with us, if it is possible.

The duration of our program is flexible. We have international volunteers/interns coming throughout the year for various lengths of stay. We do prefer that interns/volunteers stay for a minimum of 2 weeks. Interns are able to stay up to 6 months on a tourist visa. If you would like to stay for longer than 6 months, we can try to help you obtain an extended visa.

It is expected that you work 25/30 hours per week. Your work will consist of the following tasks: -Teaching English conversation courses -Planning educational activities -Organizing educational workshops on varied topics (E.g. how to write a CV, cover letter or formal e-mail) Writing class curriculums - Assisting La Casa Center in strengthening community relations and relations with local/international organizations

Our youth are very informed, politically active and well versed in using social media. They will never pass up a chance to talk to you and regularly invite foreigners to their homes for a meal with their families. All participants are provided housing with a local Palestinian host family (if desired). For many volunteers in the past, this is the most rewarding part of the program. Whether you practice Arabic with a host sibling or help prepare traditional Palestinian food, you will learn as much in the home as in the classroom. Host families provide our participants with a place to sleep, dinner and access to laundry services. Additionally, we have many contacts in a nearby refugee camp, Al Fawwar. If you prefer to live in a refugee camp, please state this in your cover letter.

La Casa is registered with the Companies Controller at the Palestinian Ministry of Ministry of National Economy. It is registered as a cultural center in the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, and also as a member of Hebron Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Continuous success is proof of our ability to provide quality services, exceeding our clients and partners expectations. More than 2500 trainees trained at the center between 2009-2015.
