Description

The Helps Education Fund connects research with practice and engages teachers, parents, and volunteers to improve student learning. We are driven by principles of equity; authentic collaboration; evidence for effectiveness; and access. By providing free or very low-cost research supported materials, trainings, and services to schools and teachers – we are able to address challenges often noted with educational equity. Our signature program, HELPS, strengthen students’ reading fluency and improve students’ motivation and self-confidence with reading.


The HELPS Specialist will be responsible for ensuring intervention and implementation fidelity, and data collection and evaluation for the HELPS program. They are also responsible for on-line communication and marketing as it relates to the HELPS program.  


Duties:

  • Work closely with Executive Director to ensure duties are carried out efficiently and effectively
  • Become certified in the HELPS program, reaching 100% fidelity
  • Provide HELPS program to students as scheduled
  • Provide HELPS training as requested  
  • Provide on-site and web-based coaching to volunteers and teachers providing HELPS
  • Develop and maintain databases that support organization and implementation of HELPS across various sites
  • Oversee the administration and collection of surveys and evaluation materials for the program
  • Data collection and data entry
  • Provide mid-year and end-of-year program evaluation for MOVES (volunteer program), and assist with program evaluation for HELPS intervention as requested
  • Communicate regularly with volunteers and teachers to ensure needs are met, materials are in place, and program is provided effectively    
  • Manage on-line training requests, provide technical assistance and answer questions in regards to HELPS training, website, and services
  • Establish content for e-newsletters, communications and marketing for HELPS
  • Communicate regularly with key stakeholders (leadership, teachers, volunteers, parents, and community members) for feedback and to ensure program is running effectively
  • Monitor teacher and student progress in HELPS, providing updates and recommendations to HEF on a weekly basis
  • Communicate immediately and regularly with Executive Director on implementation challenges so solutions can be addressed as quickly as possible
  • Assist with volunteer events for HEF, including volunteer recruitment and recognition events
  • Participate in professional staff development, board meetings, and other HEF opportunities to ensure high quality program delivery and organizational development.  
  • Perform other duties necessary for the successful operation of programs as assigned


The ideal candidate will demonstrate a passion and commitment to students and volunteer engagement. They will have a proactive approach to the work, with leadership skills that are necessary for volunteer recruitment and coordination. They will have excellent verbal and written communication skills, and must be able to work independently, handling multiple tasks and completing assignments in a thorough, accurate and timely manner.  We actively encourage diverse candidates to apply. Requirements to become an AmeriCorps member include:

  • 17 or older
  • US Citizen, US national or lawful permanent citizen
  • GED or HS graduate, or working to obtain
  • Not convicted of murder or required to register on sex offender public registry
