The Careyes Foundation is seeking motivated volunteers to serve as English teachers in rural elementary schools. We serve twelve schools in the beautiful Costalegre region, located along the Pacific coast of Jalisco, Mexico. Our English teaching program reaches around 900 2nd-6th grade students each year, using a new methodology and curriculum specifically developed to meet the needs of the rural population that we serve.

In addition to teaching, volunteers will also help facilitate our community programs, after-school activities (such as ecology education, music, cinema, and art) and weekend bike rides. Depending on individual interest and expertise, volunteers may also support various administrative aspects of our non-profit organization (such as fundraising and grant writing) and/or help develop and coordinate new programs.

If you are interested in teaching and learning from children, helping develop an innovative educational process, and making an impact in rural communities, we want to hear from you!

We have two positions open for the upcoming program cycle. We are looking for individuals who can specialize in one of the following areas:

  1. Social media
  2. Educational program development
  3. Sports & recreation
  4. Music, art, and/or cinema
  5. Administration

Requirements:

  • Available for the upcoming program cycle, from August 2020 – July 2021
  • Fluent in English (native speakers preferred) and able to speak Spanish at a conversational level
  • Experience working with children (previous teaching experience a plus)
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Valid driver's license

Benefits:

  • Monthly stipend to cover living expenses (10,000 MXN)
  • Assistance in finding local housing
  • Full access to the local state-of-the-art medical clinic as well as emergency medical insurance
  • Initial training and ongoing support
  • Use of a shared vehicle for work and personal use; however, if you use your own vehicle, your monthly stipend will increase by 1,000 MXN
  • Gasoline (weekly allowance)
  • Access to private Careyes beaches, restaurants, and events
