Earth Day Network (EDN) is seeking volunteer City Liaisons to identify the key local actors from all sectors in their city which can plan and execute Earth Day 2020 in every city of the world.
The 50th anniversary of Earth Day in 2020 comes at a pivotal time in history when the people and the planet must confront complex environmental challenges. It presents a unique opportunity to unite people across social and political boundaries, as occurred on the first Earth Day in 1970, creating a catalytic moment to launch the world into a new era of environmental awareness and action.
In 1970, groups fighting against problems as diverse as air and water pollution or the loss of biodiversity and habitat realized they shared common values. The first Earth Day convinced the public that a healthy environment is vital to our well-being. It led to the immediate creation of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the rapid passage of landmark environmental legislation. It also inspired others around the world, and a global environmental movement was born.
For 2020, Earth Day Network is putting a plan into action to bring people, institutions, businesses, and local governments together to build a new narrative for the planet and achieve a shift of consciousness.
The City Liaison will coordinate with EDN staff to promote the creation of local Earth Day 2020 committees in every city in the USA and abroad and contribute to making 2020 the biggest mobilization ever on behalf of the environment.
If you want to be involved in a global movement to make a real difference, this is a unique opportunity to help make history again. This volunteer opportunity is for those who are concerned about what is going on in the world and have the time, skills and motivation to do something about it. City Liaisons will play a critical role in turning Earth Day 2020 into a new historical environmental moment through helping identify the key local actors to launch Earth Day 2020 Committees that will put together and execute a plan for April 2020, and helping EDN follow-up on the execution.
We encourage dedicated, experienced and enthusiastic people to apply!
