Description

Summary: Woodenfish Foundation seeks an individual who will help to coordinate and support the planning of events throughout the year in NYC including short-term student programs with visits to the United Nations and an international conference on Buddhism and Science in Shenzhen, China scheduled for June 2018. Given the nature of event-planning, we are seeking someone who can be involved all the through the time of the event. 


For the NYC event, someone located in the tri-state area is preferred. For the China event, if the individual plays a significant role in coordination and is successful, Woodenfish will pay for the travel to China for the conference.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, promotes, and facilitates events
  • Works with Woodenfish staff to develop budget and timelines and contacts venue, speakers, and donors, and sponsors
  • Drafts and sends invitations to potential speakers
  • Schedules and maintains communication with speaker invitees and participants
  • Coordinates and monitors event timelines
  • Assists in preparing a variety of publications, materials, and programs for events
  • Initiates, coordinates and/or participates in all efforts to publicize promotion of event


Required Skills and Experience:


  • Nonprofit experience with demonstrated ability to anticipate next steps, take initiative, exercise discretion, and apply sound judgment
  • Experience with event planning
  • Must be flexible, highly organized and have a proven ability to juggle multiple and competing tasks and demands and impeccable follow-up and attention to detail
  • Pay close attention to detail in composing, typing and proofing materials
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English
  • Chinese language skills a plus but not necessary
  • Currently working towards BA/BS or Master’s degree 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, use of Google Suite
  • Ability to be highly productive working independently and remotely and as a member of a team
  • Skilled in Graphic Design (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, PPT) a plus
