Long-Term (6 months-1 year)
826 Valencia Street
If you're an illustrator looking for a fun way to give back to the community and use your talents to make young kids smile, 826 Valencia would love to have you join our team of field trip volunteers. On weekday mornings, we bring an elementary classroom into our writing center and help them develop an entire story from start to finish. At the end of the field trip, students walk away with a printed chapbook of their work -- but like any children's book out there, the story is never complete without the beautiful illustrations that bring it to life. Without your talents we would never know what a half-dolphin, half-crocodile, underwater princess would look like!
WHERE: At 826 Valencia, a nonprofit organization promoting the literary arts in the Mission neighborhood of San Francisco. Our tutoring lab is located behind a Pirate Supply Store front, at 826 Valencia St., San Francisco CA 94110.
WHEN: Field trips take place Monday through Thursday from 9:45am - 12:00pm during the 2016-2017 school year. Check out our website for more information on the program and if you're interested, please contact Kavitha Lotun at email@example.com. Please note that all volunteers will be required to pass a background check.
WHY: 826 Valencia is dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their writing skills, and to helping teachers get their students excited about the literary arts. The students who attend our Storytelling and Bookmaking Field Trip program LOVE to see their stories come to life! Come be a part of a worthwhile opportunity to share your craft and give back to your community.
