Way Finders is looking for a full time Summer VISTA to promote fitness in Springfield’s Old Hill neighborhood.

With 45 years' experience and over 200 employees, we offer a breadth of training opportunities and a rich experience to VISTA members.



The Summer VISTA will work at Way Finders for eight weeks as a member of our Community Building and Engagement (CB&E) team that is revitalizing neighborhoods and improving resident health. You, as our VISTA, will be part of the nationally recognized “Healthy Hill Initiative”, expanding youth and adult fitness activities in Springfield’s Old Hill neighborhood. You will recruit new participants and work with coaches and volunteers to expand “Let’s Play our youth fitness program held in a neighborhood park that engages police officers with youth for games and mentorship. You will also support members of an adult fitness program to launch a new walking group that is designed to include advocacy for improvements in streets, sidewalks and parks. Collaborating with a team of 5 volunteer Resident Health Advocates, you will promote and lead fitness activities and advocacy for neighborhood improvements. Access to reliable transportation is required. Bilingual applicants English/Spanish are preferred.

VISTA (Volunteers in Service to America) was founded in 1965 as a national service program to fight poverty in America.



Each AmeriCorps VISTA Summer Associate makes an 8 week, full-time commitment to serve on a specific project at a nonprofit organization or public agency. In return for their service, AmeriCorps VISTA members receive a modest living allowance and have the option of receiving an education award or post-service stipend after completing their service.



VISTA members focus their efforts on building the organizational, administrative, and financial capacity of organizations that fight illiteracy, improve health services, foster economic development, and otherwise assist low-income communities.
