Description

The Wat Opot Community Center (WOCC) is looking for an English Teacher for children ages 5 - 18 for a 6 month or ideally, a one year commitment.

This is not a typical classroom setting with dozens of students. Because of the varying degree of English skills as well as the age differences of the kids, we currently have a class size from 2 to 5 students for 30 minute intervals. This schedule is flexible of course and will be yours to manage and change as you desire.

Learning can be fun as well as rewarding and WOCC houses a craft room, jewelry room, preschool/playroom and a kilometer of walkable sidewalk along our fenced in property. All of these are at your disposal for use in creative teaching. We encourage all kinds of learning, from glueing sticks on paper to make letters for our preschoolers, to writing essays for our high schoolers.

Teaching hours are flexible but are basically an hour in the morning and then again from 1:30 - 4:30. Since you will be living on our property, evening tutoring is also an option.

You will have access to computers, iPads and other electronic teaching tools.

How To Apply

wocommunity@gmail.com
http://www.watopot.org

You do not need an TESL certificate but we request either a teaching degree or past experience teaching. Experience has taught us that knowing English does not necessarily qualify you to teach it.

Above all we want a teacher who can find educational material in a tree, in the sand or on a walkabout, not only in a book.

We are hoping to find someone with a willing desire to be a part of our daily community. This could include participating in our evening meditation and weekly yoga, handing out (and making!) snacks, swimming, playing sport, bandaging a scraped knee, helping kids with artwork, assisting in jewelry making, reading stories or just the simple joys of hanging out with the kids.

Your own interests and personality will play a huge part in shaping your involvement outside of teaching - but we believe the more you get involved the richer your experience will be.

Please look over our website and Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/watopot) to find additional information about our community and it's rural location in Cambodia before emailing your CV / qualifications to our email address.

Benefits include

  • A free private room in our volunteer dorm and access to shared bathrooms and a large kitchen/living area
  • No volunteer fee
  • Cambodia Visa fee paid.
  • Three meals a day (always a vegetarian option)
  • Internet (although it can be a bit sporatic)
  • Days off as requested
