The Action for Healthy Kids (AFHK) is starting a new Auxiliary Board and is looking for a diverse group of professionals in Chicago who are interested in making a difference, and will be dedicated to supporting and creating awareness of Action for Healthy Kids' mission to ensure that every kid is healthy, active, and ready to learn.

AFHK is a national organization headquartered in Chicago that was founded in 2002 and works to mobilize school professionals, families and communities to take actions that lead to healthy eating, physical activity and healthier schools where kids thrive. Find out more about what we do at

The purpose of the Auxiliary Board is to:

  • Raise awareness of AFHK's programs
  • Provide an outreach and recruitment mechanism for individual donors and philanthropic partners
  • Expand AFHK’s donor and volunteer base
  • Take action to improve the health of our community


  • Gain leadership experience
  • Attend/create networking opportunities
  • Build event planning, business development, and fundraising skills
  • Get involved in the Chicago community
  • Join the movement of people committed to healthier schools
  • Have fun while making an impact in children’s lives


  • Serve as an ambassador of AFHK and raise awareness of our programs
  • Attend monthly meetings that alternate between in-person and conference calls
  • Volunteer! These opportunities may include:
  • Attend a Day of Service event at a local school
  • Lead, coordinate, and participate in special fundraising/outreach events (for example: Team Healthy Kids 5K or marathon, donation classes at local gym/fitness studios, campaigns for individual giving, and other events you determine)
  • Provide introduction to potential supporters, including: individuals, foundations, corporations, faith-based organizations, or civic organizations
  • $500 annual give or get fundraising commitment
  • One year term of service

Qualifications and Skills

  • Professional working in Chicago
  • An interest in health and wellness and/or education
  • All applicants are welcome, but professionals with fundraising, public relations, marketing or recruiting experience are highly encouraged to apply
  • Prior experience as a consistent volunteer
