To increase awareness about the SNAP program through community outreach in Chinatown (Manhattan) & Gravesend (South Brooklyn)
The Start By Asking Campaign is seeking 2 Bilingual Mandarin/Cantonese graduate social work students to conduct presentations about SNAP in the Chinese community. The areas of focus are Chinatown (Manhattan) & Gravesend (South Brooklyn). The goal of the campaign is to break down the stigma and complexity of the SNAP program in a simple and direct way to potentially eligible clients and encourage them to apply for these benefits at one of our community based sites. Prior knowledge of the SNAP program is preferred but trainings will be provided for those interested in learning about the purpose of the SNAP program, all aspects of the enrollment process, cultural misconceptions of the program, and how to resolve common issues that clients face in obtaining or maintaining their benefits.
Bilingual Mandarin/Cantonese is a must. Ability to read and write traditional/simplified Chinese preferred. Flexible schedule is preferred.
