Tenants in Texas face eviction from their homes in unprecedented numbers in the wake of the Coronavirus. Evictions have been temporarily stayed, but effective May 25 those protections are ended. We expect tens of thousands of Texas families will face eviction immediately with more over the coming months as a limited federal eviction moratorium is also ended. These families need to be able to access informations about financial resources and their rights under the law to forestall eviction.

Texas Housers ( http://www.texashousers.org ) seeks the help of an experienced, highly skilled website designer to design a new part of our existing website to support Texas tenants coping with the unique issues related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Texas Housers has been the’ leading advocacy organization for the right of Texans with low incomes to a decent, affordable home in a quality neighborhood for more than 30 years. Our staff and volunteers are leading experts on housing needs and programs for the poor.

We maintain our existing website on the WordPress.com platform. We seek to develop a simple to understand and easy to navigate special section of our site that incorporates the following resources to support tenants;

  • Legal advice we produce in-house using iSpring e-learning creation software for Texas tenants unable to pay their rent
  • A guide to information about localized tenant financial assistance and special legal rights provided by cities and counties
  • An ”eviction barometer” that reports eviction cases filed and granted in Justice of the Peace courts in major Texas cities
  • Using iSpring e-learning creation software we are creating a series of short instructional courses offering advice to tenants that we need to periodically post to the website.
  • A city/county report card rating the effectiveness of the local governmental response to the crisis that would regularly be updated

We seek someone who can conceive, design and develop with our team a website that is highly engaging, interactive, easy to navigate and easy for our staff to update. We need a volunteer with professional experience who can help us deploy this website in a maximum of four weeks.
