What is it?

The Somali American Parent Association (SAPA) is a Minneapolis-based 501 (c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to closing the achievement gap among Somali and East African students. SAPA provides trainings and resources for parents and schools to create common ground, allowing parents and teachers to communicate better and work together to better educate students. For students, SAPA offers tutoring services and an out-of-school-time program for academic improvement and enrichment.

What would I do?

Administrative assistant would aid in our local office in Minneapolis with clerical support. Such support can include but is not limited to answering phones, conversion of older file onto the organization’s drive, and assisting Program Coordinators. Administrative assistants may also be asked to assist site staff with other activities, depending on the current needs of the organization.

What are the qualifications?

  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent intercultural communication skills
  • Ability to work well independently with minimal supervision
  • Detail-oriented
  • Patience, flexibility, good humor
  • Desire to help the East African and Refugee community in the Twin Cities
  • Experience with East African community a plus
  • Somali language skills a plus

What is the time commitment?

Based on one's availability and preferred times to work Monday-Friday and Mornings or Afternoons with consideration for the organization’s demand for administrative assistants at the moment.
