We are looking for Research Editors who will help us build our open-source database!

The Research Editor performs research to find all relevant official Government repositories that include legislation and any pronouncements related to COVID-19. Upon verification, these sources are passed to Junior Editors who then codify the data in our database, which is then reflected on the Project Lockdown map. Research Editors provide crucial work in ensuring that we present high quality, accurate data, examining the categories of Lockdown, Governance and Socio-economic Measures, Social Distancing, Movement Restrictions, and Public Health Measures.*

*These are the current datasets we are collecting, though we expect to expand our dataset inventory.

You might be a good fit for this role if you:

  • are interested in researching human rights and digital rights as they are being observed during a crisis;
  • are detail-oriented and have the patience to do long periods of reading and research;
  • have excellent research skills, and retention of information - Research Editors need to be able to retain large amounts of information for a sustained period to ensure that there is no duplication in sources or information, and to be able to identify gaps in timelines;
  • have knowledge about territories and the implementation of both legislation and measures related to the Covid-19 pandemic;
  • have excellent communication skills;
  • are familiar with Trello and Slack, or have the ability to learn new tools quickly.

Project Lockdown is an initiative of The IO Foundation and currently maps governments measures in response to the COVID-19 pandemic in relation to human and digital rights. Check out our mapping platform here: https://projectlockdown.world/.
