Urban regeneration project in Sejong, South Korea

  • Volunteer Opportunity posted by CADIP

Time Commitment

Full time (30+ hrs/wk)

Short-Term (few weeks/months)

South Korea

Sejong City is located in the central inner area of Chungcheongnam-do and stretches north-south. In the past, the current city area was divided by the Charyeong Mountains and the Geum River into parts of Jeoneui, Yeongi, and Geumnam. However, with the recent road construction, those areas were merged into one. In 2012, by incorporating parts of Chungwongun and Gongju City, Sejong became a Special Self-Governing City.

Sejong Self-Governing City has developed in a relatively short period of time since this city was designed as a new administrative capital in 2003, one of the biggest national agendas. Nevertheless, a neighborhood called Chimsan-ri is falling behind in its development. In order to improve the environment for the residents and at the same time preserve nature, the "Sejong City Urban Regeneration Center" was established.

In this project, volunteers will interact with the local residents and will help them to renovate their town. They will do manual work in order to renovate old houses and the environment of the town, and will help residents to paint walls and houses. The volunteers will also join some community activities with the residents.

Project dates: July 23 - August 1, 2018
