Job Title: Senior Research assistant

About US:

Children welfare Attainment Center Uganda {CAC Uganda} formally Kalambi Community Outreach Project (KACOP); is a community Based organization started with an aim to improve the living conditions of vulnerable children and their households. CAC core program areas are Health promotion through provision of basic medical care. And Household’s financial security empowerment through provision of skills training.

Major activities of CAC Uganda are;

Skills training of OVC caregivers through tailoring and business skills

Basic Medical care to vulnerable children and their caregivers through medical work camp.

Psychosocial support of vulnerable children and their households

Job summary:

CAC Uganda is pleased to offer a research assistant opportunity to interested volunteers to work in a village setting of Mubende district in the period between April-August 2018. The research assistant will support the CAC Uganda Health team to develop projects related to community health while gaining a better understanding of CAC Uganda’s community-based participatory health care approach. This position is ideal for someone interested in community based participatory research, community health workers, working with volunteers, and the interface between short-term public health and long term public health projects.

The post holder will be required to carry out research in the area of public health including designing, recording, analysing and writing up the results (as part of a research team).

A Senior Research Assistant is required to:

·       Contribute to the research design and field studies in relation to the project;

·       Carry out field work in consultation with the Executive director.

·       Record, analyse and write up the results of the field studies; Prepare and present findings of research activity to colleagues for review purposes;

·       Help prepare progress reports on research for funding bodies as required;

·       Contribute to the preparation and drafting of research proposals;

·       Contribute to the overall activities of the research team and department as required;

·       Carryout any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Executive director;

·       Actively follow all organisation policies and regulations, and maintain an awareness and observation of Research Ethics, and Health and Safety Regulations.

A Senior Research Assistant is also required to:

·       Work independently on assigned research tasks;

·       Contribute to the drafting and submitting of papers to appropriate peer reviewed journals;

·       Assist with relevant literature reviews and research;

·       Assisting in the development of key survey tools such as surveys and focus group scripts;

·       Assures accurate reporting and analysis of data collected;


·       Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in public health, social worker or related field;

·       Good language skills in English;

·       Skills in problem solving and management;

·       Good organizational skills and ability to multitask while paying close attention to details;

·       Knowledge and experience using MS Office & internet research;

·       Experience with statistical packages;

·       Interest in volunteering;

·       A desire for a career in international development;
