Description

Power 4 Youth is an academic mentoring program for at-risk middle and high school youth from throughout the Long Beach area. Mentors and students meet weekly one-on-one at supervised locations with the goal of helping the youth to do better in school. However, it is not a tutoring program or homework club! Pairs work to address the broad, behind-the-scenes issues that are keeping the youth from doing his or her best.

Free training and support help assure a positive mentoring experience for both the volunteer and student.

The qualifications to be a mentor include:

1) Genuine liking for teenagers and the ability to help them learn and excel;

2) At least eighteen years old and high school graduate;

3) Time to devote to the job, including ability to complete training; and

4) Willingness to work with persons regardless of age, race, disability, religion, ethnic or socioeconomic background.
