Make a REAL difference in Colombia with Love Volunteers Caring for the Elderly Program
- Volunteer Opportunity posted by Love Volunteers
There must be few locations in the world as exotic and vibrant as wonderful Cartagena de Indias, the tourism hub of Colombia in Central America. Set in this amazing location, this elderly care program is for international volunteers with a caring and compassionate nature and a desire to help those less fortunate. Volunteers on this program can help the elderly in need while also soaking up the sights and culture of this amazing city, a UNESCO World Heritage listed city. This program is set in a friendly care home for disadvantaged elderly men and women. Many of the residents were abandoned by their family when they became burdensome or caring for them became too expensive. Volunteers on this program will be working directly with the elderly, offering them help, comfort and companionship – something that is greatly appreciated. This is a fantastic program for volunteers who wish to work with vulnerable elderly people and soak up the friendly Colombian culture in a fun-filled city.
Goals of this Project:
- Provide care to the elderly of Cartagena who have been left destitute and vulnerable
- Improve the future prospects of some of Cartagena’s most marginalized citizens
- Provide a caring, varied and interesting environment for the elderly to enjoy their days
- Create inter-cultural understanding which benefits both residents and international volunteers alike.
- Training Provided
- Housing Available
- Language/Cultural Support Available
- International Volunteers
How To Apply
Love Volunteers welcomes all those 20 years and over who wish to assist in the support and development of some of Colombia's most marginalized people - it's senior citizens. While this highly rewarding project does not require participants to have a background in the field of elderly care, as there are many ways you can assist, volunteers with suitable education, qualifications or experience are highly sought after. Regardless, a volunteer’s individual role can often be tailored to suit their particular skills and interests. Volunteers on this project will need an understanding of Spanish in order to communicate effectively with the seniors and local staff members. All applicants must of course display a genuine willingness to help, show drive, initiative and compassion, and bring a positive 'can-do' attitude. If this sounds like you, we want you on the team!
Additionally, volunteers applying to join this program will be required to supply to following documentation:
- Emergency contact
