The MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman (MIC@M) seeks a Project Manager to join its full-time team. The Project Manager’s main objective is to manage several MIC@M projects from proposal development to project completion, including monitoring and tracking activities and coordinating personnel and communications. The Project Manager will also implement select client project activities and contribute to internal MIC@M strategy, reporting, and communications.

About the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman

The MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman (MIC@M) is a consulting practice within Milliman dedicated to promoting microinsurance and risk management solutions for low-income populations in developing markets.

Our Vision

We envision a world in which 3 billion low-income people benefit from SUAVE risk management solutions

Our mission:

Low-income people across the globe need effective risk management solutions. As a passionate and interdisciplinary team, we work in partnership with others to develop and advise on creative and valuable risk management solutions covering a full range of risks for low-income populations, and we raise our voices to ensure that low-income people are not left out.

We bring world-class capabilities and local expertise to the specialized area of microinsurance. We have implemented projects in over 75 countries in the last 20 years.

In addition to our Vision and Mission, throughout all consulting work, the MicroInsurance Centre at Milliman is guided by five core philosophies:

SUAVE

The most successful microinsurance products are SUAVE: Simple, Understood, Accessible, Valuable, and Efficient. We work with institutions to ensure that each of their products has these critical “SUAVE” characteristics.

The Magical Balance

This philosophy recognizes that there must be value on both ends of the value chain: there should be long-term, reasonable profit for insurers and distributors on one end, and a product that provides clear value for low-income customers on the other.

Evolution of products

We believe in the evolution of products according to the needs of the low-income customers, with frequent improvement, innovations, and new offerings.

Local capacity

As consultants we seek to support the development of local capacity; we are committed to transferring skills to our partners in a way that they can continue the microinsurance evolution without continually requiring consultant assistance.

Risk Management 360

We believe insurance is one component of a broader risk management approach that is necessary for low-income populations to successfully manage their financial risks. We call our approach Risk Management 360 (RM360).

Our work: Our clients include private insurers, donor organizations, and multi-lateral agencies, among others. We provide a variety of consulting activities around research, insurance and risk management product development, strategy development, training, and advocacy. Some project examples include:

  1. Conducting research to create women’s risk profiles to help Kenyan stakeholders learn how to better meet the need to women’s manage risks with diverse solutions.
