Director, Individual Giving

The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County (“NHMLAC”) was the first museum in L.A. to open its doors 108 years ago and is poised for an exciting new era as it plans for the future. Having recently completed a new strategic framework, the Natural History Museums of Los Angeles County—including NHM at Exposition Park, La Brea Tar Pits and museum in mid-Wilshire, and the William S. The NHMLAC is seeking a Director, Individual Giving for our Advancement department. The Director, individual Giving works closely with the Associate Vice President, Advancement to oversee the Individual Giving program, encompassing the following annual programs: The Fellows, Membership, and Annual Funds program at the Natural History Museum. It is an exciting time as we embark on new journeys of becoming a museum of, for, and with L.A.

Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

1. Develops and leads a comprehensive strategic plan for Membership, Fellows, and Annual Fund to meet or exceed revenue goals
2. Under the direction of the AVP, Advancement, manages all aspects of the Individual Giving program, including Member/Fellow/Annual Fund acquisition, renewal, upgrade, events, communication, recognition, acknowledgements, site visits or donor tours, special concierge requests, and donor stewardship in order to achieve the strategic objectives of the Advancement Department
3. Directs acquisition and upgrades for Fellows via solicitation campaigns that are integrated with the overall membership and major gifts strategies.
4. Identifies, cultivates and solicits Fellows prospects to join, and secures renewals and upgrades on a timely and consistent renewal cycle.
5. Supervises the Associate Director of Membership in the development and execution of an innovative and responsive membership program.

This position has the following requirements:

• Communication: Demonstrated excellence in oral and written communication.
• Presentation Skills: Ability to effectively present information to and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
• Computer Skills: Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Powerpoint
• Database Management: Knowledge and understanding of donor databases.
• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent, ideally in a related field.
• 5 to 7 years of membership and annual giving, or major gift fundraising experience.
• Experience working directly with donors, boards, or trustees in a non­profit setting.

The NHMLAC is especially interested in candidates whose background and experience have prepared them to contribute to our commitment to engagement and inclusion at culturally diverse audiences in museum and in sciences.

The NHMLAC is seeking applicants who have demonstrated experience and commitment working with a diverse community. Salary range for this position is $108,000 - $110,000 with experience plus excellent benefits. This is a full time regular, exempt position.
