General Summary: The Certification Officer is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Certification Office in the School of Education. This includes implementing and monitoring the procedures necessary for the Certification Office and Center for Professional Education to recommend candidates for certification (teacher, administrator, school counselor, add-on endorsements, etc.) and staying current with changing state requirements for certification programs. The Certification Officer supports faculty in the work of aligning course content with standards of professional practice and manages the Certification Office team.

Job Description:
  • Monitors WAC requirements, changes, and other state regulations and communicates changes with SOE stakeholders. Works directly with state agencies as needed.
  • Sets certification policies for residency certification and add-on endorsements to help ensure the alignment of program components with certification standards.
  • Hires, mentors, and manages the certification office so the team provides accurate and timely information regarding certification requirements to prospective and current students, alumni, and faculty. Provides performance appraisals, task assignments, and oversight as necessary.
  • Coordinates with the Graduate Center to ensure certification protocols are being met, meeting as necessary with students.
  • Coordinates with the Assessment Director on required annual reports. The Certification Officer coordinates timing on data completion for certification programs and can assist with student specific questions if necessary.
  • Oversees the process for recommendation of certification of candidates to the state by ensuring they meet or exceed state competencies.
  • Represents Seattle Pacific University at various state-level meetings on certification and endorsements (WACTE, PESB board meetings, etc.).
  • Facilitates internal and external meetings as necessary.

  • Bachelor's degree in education-related field or equivalent.
  • Two years of experience working with students and faculty in higher education.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Products including Outlook, Word and Excel.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in education-related field or equivalent.
  • Three years of experience working with students and faculty in certification at the higher-education level.
  • Teaching certificate and 5 years of teaching experience.
  • Strong understanding of competence-based learning, previous experience successfully managing employees.
  • Experience with Administrative Banner, SharePoint, Slate.

Salary: $55,896

This is a full time position with excellent benefits. SPU pays the employee premium for medical, dental, and vision insurance. SPU makes contributions to an employee HSA account and to a retirement account after one year of eligibility in the plan. Tuition discount program available for the employee and qualified immediate family members.
