We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.

Position Overview

Oversees all facets of the Sarah Burke House transitional shelter and Crisis Shelter Program, including operations, programs, human resources, purchasing, and community relations. Ensures professional and expeditious provision of social services for the families and their children who reside in Sarah Burke House and the four crisis shelters and for those who participate in the shelters' Aftercare program. Provides support to the Rapid Rehousing program and its staff. Ensures that all programs are taking a trauma approach to the services being provided. Serves as a member of the Senior Management team, advising and assisting in the development and implementation of policies, programs, and strategic priorities for the agency. Plays a lead role in developing agency advocacy positions and serves as a member of the steering committee of the New York City Coalition of Domestic Violence Residential Providers.


  • Develops, implements, and evaluates SBH and crisis shelter program goals and outcomes to ensure appropriate high-quality services and compliance with funding mandates and goals.
  • Designs and implements new program initiatives at SBH and in conjunction with the Program Director of Residential Services at the crisis shelters.
  • Provides oversight to the Rapid Rehousing Program and ensures all HUD mandates are being met.
  • ·Manages staff recruitment, training, supervision, and evaluation to ensure appropriate staffing levels and the professional delivery of services.
  • Manages SBH shelter's relations with government regulatory agencies, funders, and local community agencies.
  • Ensures establishment and maintenance of collaborative working relationships with local police precincts.
  • Provides clinical and administrative supervision to direct reports.
  • Develops and manages program budget to ensure maximum utilization of financial resources and adherence to revenue and expense guidelines and constraints.
  • Ensures facilities are well maintained and safe on a day-to-day basis.
  • Provides regular program and statistical reports on Shelter operations and programs to Executive Director.
  • Represents agency advocacy positions on various city-wide committees, including the NYC Coalition of Domestic Violence Residential Providers
  • On-call 24/7.
  • Performs any other department or agency-related duties or special projects as directed by supervisor.

  • LMSW or related degree, LCSW preferred.
  • Eight years of progressive responsibility in staff supervision and program management.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • Residential services experience preferred.
  • Experience managing multiple sites is a plus.
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish is a plus.
  • Ability to multi-task.
  • Well-organized.
  • Ability to be calm in a crisis.
  • Creative problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of and ability to work with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Commitment to working to end domestic violence and gender-based violence.

Minimum Salary: $105,000.00 Annually
