The Opportunity

The Senior IT Technician is a comprehensive, professional IT generalist position. This key role has a wide-ranging scope including technology evaluation and roll out, network/server security and administration, cloud platform administration, vendor management, and internal help desk requests. The Senior IT Technician will leverage their strong analytical and organizational abilities to consistently support a diverse group of stakeholders, through optimizing the performance and availability of critical applications and services. The ability to prioritize and balance requests and projects is critical to success in this role. 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

·      Provide or oversee desktop, application, and end-user support:

o   For Windows, Apple, and Android based endpoint devices.

o   Business applications (Office 365, Google, Adobe).

o   Enterprise applications (CRM, EDMS, financial, business intelligence).

o   Peripherals (copiers and printers, fax machines, check, and receipt printers).

o   Audio-visual and Wi-Fi system support for conference rooms, conference calls, and onsite/offsite events and meetings (both during and after normal business hours).

o   Assist in production application operations tasks in coordination with the Data Management Team, as needed.

o   Setup, rollout, and update/patch endpoint devices including creation and maintenance of system images.

o   Setup and support remote access to desktop and enterprise applications and network drives.

·      Provide Systems/Network Support and Management:

o   Setup and support Active Directory hybrid identities between Azure, Office 365, third party vendor hosted-solutions, Foundation applications, and Trusts between University and Foundation Active Directories.

o   Manage vendor relationships with equipment, network, and security vendors.

o   Support Windows VMs and other resources in Azure cloud.

o   Setup and support Windows Print Services.

o   Configure, maintain, and monitor the TCP/IP network for optimum performance and security.

o   Configure, maintain, test, and restore desktop and system backups and database and system disaster recovery.

o   Update both server and client software as needed to repair known issues and implement improvements.

o   Monitor system performance and implement adjustments when needed. Diagnose and resolve performance failures.

o   Collaborate with other technical staff on IT infrastructure strategy, system design, growth, architecture, performance, and processes.

o   Act as technical liaison with the Office of Information Technologies and with the Department of Networking and Telecommunications. Understand and adhere to both Foundation and University policy related to Information Technology.

o   Keep up to date on technical knowledge needed to support new and upgraded equipment, software, and systems.

·      Security and Compliance:

o   Ensure and enforce fiduciary controls, including credit card processing systems for events and donations.

o   Maintain network, file systems, email, and client security.

o   Responsible for the annual PCI compliance audit process.

o   Ensure PII and FERPA compliance.

o   Act as technical liaison between PSU Foundation, third-party security vendors, and PSU security staff.

·      Inventory Management:

o   Prepare and dispose of surplus equipment and coordinate and oversee destruction of unneeded hard drives.

o   Maintain inventory of all IT hardware, software, and license/subscription assets.

o   Act as a technical liaison between Foundation IT and Vendors. Responsible for hardware, software, and supply orders.

o   Handle and track requests for loaner equipment.

·      Training and Documentation:

o   Collaborate on the development of training curriculum, coordinate end-user training and user drop-in support sessions.

o   Create technical and end-user documentation for policies and procedures.

o   Create technical Systems Architecture documentation.

o   Act as the librarian for all system operations related manuals and media for all supported software.

o   Document hardware and software installations, software versions, operating procedures, and application programs.

·      Other:

o   Lead IT projects, including the design and deployment of new IT systems and services.

o   Performs additional duties as assigned

Education and Experience Requirements

·      Bachelor's degree in computer-related field or equivalent experience.

·      Three or more years of related experience.

·      Experience providing end user support including phone, email, remote, and walk-up.

·      Experience executing projects and rolling out IT infrastructures across various technologies.

·      Experience configuring, testing, deploying, and supporting endpoint devices and peripherals (including desktops, laptops, tablets, desktop and smart phones, printers, copiers, fax-machines, check and receipt printers, audio-visual equipment).

·      Experience tracking hardware and software inventory.

·      Experience with Endpoint Protection and Encryption tools.

·      Experience setting up and administering Windows Server and Windows 10.

·      Experience with Microsoft Office and Office 365/SharePoint.

·      Experience setting up and administering Microsoft Hyper-V and VMware environments.

·      Experience with Active Directory, Trusts, LDAP, VPN, SMTP, TCP/IP, DNS, NAT, Wireless LAN, VLAN technology.

·      Knowledge and experience with IIS, MySQL, and SQL-Server.

·      Knowledge and experience with VB, Perl, PowerShell, .Net, and Python preferred, but not required.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Requirements  

The individual in this position is expected to possess and utilize their:

·      Strong project management skills and experience leading and managing large IT initiatives.

·      Excellent working knowledge of computer systems, security, network and systems administration, databases and data storage systems, and phone systems.

·      Comprehensive understanding of network architecture and client/server technology.

·      Understanding of McAfee Enterprise Anti-Virus and other Anti-Virus type software.

·      Attention to Detail Skills: You notice and remember the nuances and tap those details in order to work effectively.

·      Organization Skills: You can manage multiple deadlines and priorities simultaneously.

·      Critical Thinking Skills: When something doesn’t work, you are able to either fix the problem or find an effective and efficient work-around.

·      Customer Service Skills: You have proven experience delivering exceptional customer service in high stress situations.

·      Confidential Skills: You understand the importance of confidentiality and know when information of the highest level requires the utmost care and discretion.

·      Communication Abilities: You absorb and process what you hear and see quickly and communicate relevant information in a manner that is readily understood by the intended audience, including customers and team members. You’re able to write, read, speak, and understand English.

·      Administrative Skills: You have tact and the ability to work with the highest levels in the organization. You are able to remain focused and record appropriate notes, minutes and action items during meetings and events.

Other Essential Information

·      Department: Data Management & IT Services  

·      Work Days/Hours: Full Time, 40 hours/week, Monday-Friday

·      Work Type: We currently have a hybrid work model at the PSU Foundation. The Senior IT Technician will be required to work three days in the PSUF office and the remainder of the work week can be worked remotely in Oregon or Washington.

Compensation and Benefits

·      Annual Compensation: $83,000-$93,000 (depending on experience)
