Every year, Sanctuary empowers thousands of adults and children to move from fear and abuse to safety and stability, transforming lives through a comprehensive range of services. We provide a range of wrap-around services to help survivors rebuild their lives in the aftermath of abuse, and work to end gender violence through three key strategies: direct services, outreach and training, and systems-change advocacy. Our services are available in 11 locations throughout New York City.

Position Overview:

Case Managers of Residential Services supports families who have experienced domestic and gender-based violence in transitioning to a life of stability and autonomy. They assist families by enhancing internal strengths, overcoming identified barriers, and achieving successes specifically tailored to the individual family. Added emphasis is placed on community healing for families through support groups and recreational events and interdisciplinary team support.


  • Provide comprehensive and trauma-informed case management services in support of safety, success, well-being, and healing for families
  • Work with a caseload of 15 families that reside in Sanctuary's Tier II DV family shelter
  • Provide case management related tasks such as goal setting, safety planning, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, accessing entitlements, accompaniments as needed
  • Assist families in obtaining self-sufficiency through weekly goal setting and attainment measures, appropriate referrals for counseling, financial counseling, ESL classes, job readiness programs and higher education
  • Prepares requests for educational and financial assistance grants on a family's behalf
  • Conduct shelter intake and assessments for newly admitted families and coordinate shelter discharge with families
  • Conduct monthly unit inspection
  • Conducts outreach and trainings
  • Support families in adherence to shelter regulations and program compliance
  • Maintain accurate case records, documents all services provided within Sanctuary's Service Tracking System
  • Collaborate with internal and external service providers for families
  • Understanding of and ability to work with people of diverse national, ethnic, cultural, religious, and socioeconomic backgrounds and issues of trauma, violence prevention, and victimization
  • Provide programmatic and administrative support as needed
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor

  • BA preferred.
  • Experience working in a similar position in social services field, preferably in domestic violence and/ or shelter services.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team, including working collaboratively with professionals across disciplines.
  • Flexibility to prioritize and work on multiple projects.
  • Highly developed problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and computer skills.
  • Takes initiative to meet client needs.
  • Spanish is a plus.

Minimum Salary: $45,000.00 Annually
