The Digital Communications Senior plays a significant role in planning and executing an online content strategy for the agency. Duties includes developing and coordinating social media and email marketing content, applying social media and other digital best practices, and completing related work to drive brand awareness and audience engagement. The ideal candidate for this position is a communications expert and curious learner who thrives at a mission-driven organization. They perform work under the supervision of the Communications Principal.




  • Manage and carry out the content strategy for all social media properties, including planning, writing, and scheduling posts as well as coming up with visual ideas
  • Ensure content on social media channels grows audiences and engagement and aligns with broader communication strategy and goals
  • Monitor social media analytics and present data-driven insights and key learnings during monthly reviews to drive opportunities for optimization, engagement, and conversion
  • Provide guidance for the communications team and agency staff on social media best practices, helping subject matter experts elevate the agency’s brand
  • Design and monitor email marketing campaigns to increase engagement and retain active subscribers
  • Manage the timeline, development, and publication of content for the agency’s emails, drafting and revising copy as needed
  • Manage email and social media communications for the annual State of the Region event
  • Contribute to success of agency’s digital strategy in alignment with broader communication strategy and goals, including writing and editing website content
  • Support communication strategies for agency initiatives, including making connections to ON TO 2050 goals and other priorities
  • Work with on-staff and external graphic designers as needed to produce on-brand graphics, illustrations, and layouts for social media and email marketing campaigns
  • Stay up to date on social media best practices and technologies
  • Provide timely and accurate progress reports and updates on projects and tasks


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED (an equivalent amount of training, education, and experience will be considered)


  • Bachelor’s degree with coursework in communications, English, media/public relations, journalism, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5-7 years communication experience at a nonprofit, association, government agency, or mission-driven organization


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES including competencies that may be representative but not all inclusive of those commonly associated with this position.


  • Proven success with results-oriented social media and email marketing strategies, with an understanding of what makes for compelling content and which channels make the most sense for different audiences
  • Proven success in using analytics and reporting platforms to improve audience growth and online engagement
  • Strong understanding of brand management, visual communications, and accessibility guidelines
  • Experience with multiple social media management tools (Critical Mention, Hootsuite) and email marketing platforms (Constant Contact, MailChimp), SEO and keyword tools, and HTML coding
  • Experience with email marketing and social media engagement strategies, best practices, and trends
  • Experience with Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, or other graphic design software
  • Strong writing, editing, and proofreading skills, both technical and creative
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex topics clearly and concisely
  • Strong understanding of grammar, style, and punctuation, with the ability to follow in-house brand and style guides
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a collaborative team environment and integrate diverse thinking and feedback from multiple stakeholders
  • Excellent attention to detail, with strong planning, organizational, and research skills
  • Superior project and time management skills, with the ability to execute and prioritize work efficiently and accurately and deliver high-quality content under tight timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to make objective decisions using sound judgment and remain calm under stress
