Summary of Duties:

The Events and Visits Officer directs the operations of a team of events staff, who work with clients to plan, support and deliver official events held at the Consulate General of Canada, Permanent Mission of Canada to the UN, and the Official Residences; manages the Events and Visits unit staff and budget; cultivates a network of internal and external clients and stakeholders; provides advice and guidance to internal and external clients on events-related policies; and manages the logistics team and coordination of high level (Ministerial and above) visits to New York.

 

Area of Selection:

Open to applicants who are legal residents or citizens of the United States who are:

  • Currently living and eligible to work in the United States;
  • current employees of a Canadian Mission located in the United States;
  • spouses and dependents of Canada-based staff of the Canadian Missions in New York;

who meet all of the essential requirements stated below, and whose applications are received by the closing date. Please note that the Consulate General of Canada in New York will not reimburse relocation

costs under any circumstance and does not sponsor work authorizations directly or indirectly.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

*Language will be assessed further during the process. 

 

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in a field related to the duties and specific areas of competence required by the position.

Language:

  • An advanced proficiency level in English (reading, writing, comprehension and speaking).

Experience:

  • A minimum of 5 years of recent experience in event planning and execution of complex events. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience, managing and supervising a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Recent experience in working with contemporary events spaces and equipment
  • Recent experience in coordinating logistics for executives/VIP guests. 
  • Recent experience in developing policies or standard operating procedures.

*Recent experience is defined in the last 8 years. 

 

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

 

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of event planning and implementations, including needs assessment;
  • Knowledge of administrative processes and procedures; and
  • Knowledge in working with Microsoft Office applications and mobile platforms.

Competencies:

  • Adaptability and Flexibility;
  • Client Focus; 
  • Sound judgement / problem solving; 
  • Attention to detail; and
  • Effective time management.

Abilities: 

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to network and maintain a network of vendors;
  • Ability to analyze situations, make recommendations and implement solutions;
  • Ability to work with a diverse client base, including racialized communities while applying an intersectional lens to initiatives, with a view to advancing the organization in the areas of diversity, equity and inclusion;
  • Ability to think strategically; and 
  • Ability to build a cohesive team and manage performance of subordinates.

 

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Working knowledge of French

 

Operational Requirements:

  • Hours of work: Normal hours of work for this position are in accordance with Locally-Engaged Staff regulations of 37.5 hours per week.
  • Overtime, including evenings and weekends, may be required with advance notice.
  • Location of work: Work is normally performed on-site with some limited
  • flexibility for teleworking.

 

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.
