Reporting to the Associate Vice Provost and Dean of Student Life, the Director of CARE oversees and coordinates the CARE Program at Portland State. The CARE Program includes the Director, the CARE Advocate, an Administrative Program Assistant, and key stakeholders across campus to respond to complex student situations that have impacted a student’s ability to function successfully in the University community.
The Director is responsible for triaging referrals and creating procedures within the program to best respond to student concerns. In order to do this, the Director must be extremely collaborative and maintain consultative working relationships within the University, particularly, but not limited to: Housing and Residence Life, Student Health and Counseling Services, Campus Public Safety Office, Disability Resource Center, Academic and Career Services, Financial Aid, and Student Conduct. The Director serves as the facilitator of a multidisciplinary campus team of professionals responding to heightened and complex student cases.
In addition, the Director of CARE is knowledgeable about resources in the greater Portland area. The Director consults with staff and faculty on how to handle complex student situations, provides education and training, and is the point of contact for faculty and staff related to the CARE program. The Director of CARE will work directly with students and responds, as part of a team, to emergency/urgent situations, evening and weekend hours may be required.
This position may work on a rotation of after-hours response with a team of professionals, so evening and weekend hours may be required.
