ABOUT GOOD GRIEF

Good Grief’s mission is to build resilience in children, strengthen families, and empower communities to grow from loss and adversity. Since our founding in 2004, the foundation of our work is the understanding that grief is a universal human experience that serves a purpose by helping us rebuild our lives and adapt after tragedy. Good Grief equips people to face grief and other adversity from the start by giving them tools they can use for the remainder of their lives. Our programs reduce isolation, teach resilience, create a safe environment to people to remember and share their grief story, and develop a sense of possibility and hopefulness for the future. Good Grief provides support to more than 850 participants each month at our family support centers in Morristown and Princeton and satellite locations in Jersey City and Newark.


ABOUT THE POSITION

Good Grief’s Program Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and strategic growth of Good Grief’s programs. The Program Director oversees the coordination and administration of all aspects of programming including program development, planning and organizing; staff and volunteer development and supervision; providing leadership and direction; evaluating the overall quality and success of programs. The position requires a forward-thinking and dynamic individual to provide proactive leadership, vision, and strategy in developing new, innovative programs. The Program Director embodies the staff values of Good Grief and passionately communicates the importance of the organization’s mission.


PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT, PLANNING, ORGANIZING

·     Responsible for the overall success of Good Grief’s programs.

·     Programmatic oversight of Good Grief’s family support centers and satellite locations. Build sustainable infrastructure for each program.

·     Oversee the quality and success of all aspects of program operations, management, and activity development.

·     Effective prioritization of programmatic objectives, initiatives, and budget needs.

·     Plan the delivery of Good Grief’s programs in accordance with the mission and goals of the organization.

·     Develop and implement long-term goals and objectives to achieve the successful outcomes of Good Grief’s programs.

·     Ensure that Good Grief’s programs operate within the policies, procedures, and best practices of the organization.

·     Develop and ensure implementation of all forms, records, and tracking documentation across Good Grief’s programs.

·     Ensure the care and support of Good Grief’s families, volunteers, and community stakeholders.

·     Assist with the development of the annual program budget and operating plan to support programming.

·     Working with the Development Department, develop narrative for program funding proposals to ensure the continuous delivery of services.

·     Through proper planning and management, meet future department goals.

·     Develop new initiatives to support the strategic direction of the organization and long-term program expansion in coordination with Executive Management and the Board of Directors. This includes, ensuring Good Grief’s programs are sustainable, accessible, and diverse.

·     Keeps current with professional literature around childhood bereavement, adverse childhood experiences, and resiliency.


STAFF AND VOLUNTEER DEVELOPMENT AND SUPERVISION

·     Promote and foster an environment in which proactive thinking and creativity are encouraged.

·     Identify capacities needed to achieve programmatic and organizational goals.

·     Recruit, interview, and select well-qualified program staff.

·     Provide clear expectations and appropriate support for program staff to fulfill their responsibilities.

·     Conduct regular meetings, supervision, and communicate effectively with program staff.

·     Provide continuing education and professional development opportunities for program staff.

·     In coordination with the Director of Education, provide regular learning opportunities for volunteer facilitators and team coordinators.

·     Conduct and document yearly staff appraisals as required by Good Grief.

·     Deliver Good Grief’s 4-day facilitator training two to three times per year.

·     Manage 250+ facilitators and 11 contractors.


LEADERSHIP AND DIRECTION

·     Develop and manage referral sources and community outreach strategy while also representing the organization at public events, conferences, and community partnerships.

·     Communicate with members and stakeholders to increase community support and outreach.

·     Develop strategic partnerships and leverage community resources.

·     Proactive cultivation of all key stakeholders.

·     Ensure all program staff, volunteers, and families receive proper orientation, training, and programming.

·     Supervise by providing direction, mentorship, and feedback.

·     Active participation in senior staff to support the organization’s strategies and mission fulfillment.


PROGRAM EVALUATION

·     Ensure programmatic excellence through the development and implementation of innovative performance and outcome measures.

·     Implement and manage Good Grief’s policies, procedures, and best practices.

·     Monitor and evaluate Good Grief’s programs regularly.

·     Evaluate fulfillment of programs’ goals and objectives.

·     Assess the strengths of Good Grief’s programs and identify areas for improvement.

·     Report data, evaluation findings, and recommended changes regularly to Executive Management, Board of Directors, and funders.

COMMUNITY RELATIONS, OUTREACH AND DEVELOPMENT:

·      Works with the development team to coordinate efforts for events

·      Develops and implements consistent outreach and marketing strategies

·      Develops and maintains relationships with referral sources such as hospitals, physicians, hospice and funeral homes

·      Provides educational workshops to school personnel and community organizations on supporting grieving children and creating supportive empathic environments 

REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

• Master’s degree required

• 5-7 years’ experience within direct program services

• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities

• Demonstrated success developing and evaluating innovative programs

• Strong analytic, interpersonal, and organizational skills

• Strength in hiring, recruiting, managing, and retaining staff

• Excellent verbal and written skills with exceptional attention to details

• Strong personal commitment to and passion for Good Grief’s mission

• Proficient with technology

• Flexibility to work varied hours, including nights and weekends, as needed

• Travel between program locations required for oversight

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

·     Salary - $65,000 - $70,000
