Director, Constituent & Community Services

LOCATION

DOROT is headquartered on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and the team works on a hybrid schedule. The Director will be expected to work in the office three to five days per week based upon work needs. All team members are required to be fully vaccinated for COVID-19.

ORGANIZATIONAL OVERVIEW

Founded in 1976, DOROT (“generations” in Hebrew) facilitates a dynamic partnership between older adults, volunteers and professionals to address the challenges of an aging population. DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults in the Jewish and wider community to help them live more independently and as valued community members. ABOUT THE CONSTITUENT & COMMUNITY SERVICES DEPARTMENT

The Constituent and Community Services (CCS) department’s team provides a range of supportive services that assist older adults in aging in place and connecting to programs and resources that help them to thrive and build vital social connections. The department provides comprehensive, short-term case assistance and support to a broad spectrum of older adults who range in age from 60 to over 100, vary in physical mobility and economic status from highly active in the community to predominantly home-based. Social Workers in CCS conduct psycho-social home assessments of all older adults interested in participating in DOROT’s in-home programs, which include programs managed by the CCS team as well as visiting programs run by other departments. To support our social work model of service delivery, staff in CCS are consulted by colleagues throughout the agency as constituent needs arise. This robust portfolio includes Friendly Visiting, Kosher Meals at Home, Case Assistance, Information & Referral, Synagogue Partnerships programs and the coordination of MSW/Graduate Intern cohort.

THE OPPORTUNITY

Reporting to the Senior Program Officer for Supportive Services, the Director is a seasoned and strategic social services leader who is poised to review, enhance and oversee a majority of our client-centered programs. This astute leader is a social work subject matter expert who turns policies into effective practice and ensures that staff have the knowledge, resources and support they need to succeed. They will be responsible for adding a layer of dynamic oversight and analytical acumen, refining organizational policies and procedures based upon best clinical practices and being a creative thought leader for existing and new program opportunities.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Director is responsible for the following major responsibilities in addition to a multitude of other projects that support both CCS and other agency goals:

Leadership & Team Building

• Provide overall leadership and expert clinical supervision to a multi-faceted staff of approximately 15, building on personnel and programmatic strengths and positioning the department for advancement.

• Supervise the CCS team and support other departments with clinical concerns in support of older adults with complex needs using expert direct practice acumen, sound clinical judgment and a keen understanding of DOROT’s role with constituents and in the community.

• Work interdepartmentally and collaboratively with other Directors on a variety of projects that range from programmatic improvements and marketing and communication strategies to working with the Development team on funding reports and new proposals, and addressing People & Culture matters.

Social Work Practice

• Recommend and implement new policies, procedures and protocols based upon best practices and clinical standards of excellence (e.g. standardizing internal referrals for social work support, clarifying program eligibility criteria, home assessment process and related client coding, etc.)

• Develop and oversee an operational framework for the CCS team’s collaboration with other departments when social work expertise is needed to support an initiative or program participants experiencing challenges.

• Fulfill other supervisory needs as necessary to support the goals of the department and agency; this includes, but is not limited to, on-going individual supervision, clinical supervision for social workers earning hours for their LCSW, supervision of MSW interns, developing professional training opportunities for social workers, etc.

Program Development & Management

• Be an innovative leader for program enhancements in the CCS portfolio and respond to aging trends and new opportunities with strategic vision and expert program planning abilities.

• Assess program deliverables and service outcomes through a data driven lens working in partnership with the Senior Management Team and Program Impact and Evaluation department; refine impact measures and other assessment tools and utilize survey results to inform and improve programming.

• Ensure that tracking systems, protocols and current technologies are efficient and effective, allowing for the consistent collection of participant data and program metrics.

• Oversee a budget representing non-personnel expenses in distinct programs that are tracked and monitored separately.

• Establish and maintain supportive and mutually beneficial relationships with other community and aging services providers.

• Represent DOROT at professional conferences and in the media upon request and support agency efforts to promote our work and impact.

QUALIFICATIONS

• LCSW (SIFI required), with knowledge of DSM-V

• 8+ years of experience in aging services or related field and in supervising a team of social workers and/or informing clinical best practices

• Experience in the field of non-profit management with a proven track record of program management and supervision, demonstrating an increasing level of responsibility

• Comprehensive understanding of the field of aging and social work best practices, and experience in establishing effective operational policies and protocols to maximize client services and outcomes

• Demonstrated success in skillfully implementing innovative, disciplined and continuously improving processes and systems, requiring garnering cross-functional staff support and use.

This is an exempt position, and candidates can expect an annual salary between $100,000-$115,000, commensurate with skills and experience.
