City Year San Jose / Silicon Valley is seeking a visionary Managing Director of Impact to provide thoughtful & strategic leadership in the execution of our impact strategy. The Managing Director is responsible for leading all aspects of our impact strategy, including service model delivery, training and development of City Year AmeriCorps members, and school district engagement. The person in this role leads our implementation of the Whole School Whole Child (WSWC) service model and will develop transformational relationships with external partners, including AmeriCorps and the San Jose School Districts where we work. The Managing Director of Impact will ensure the entire department staff is executing to results and on track to achieve both short and long term goals. The Managing Director of Impact holds responsibility and is accountable for the department’s strategy, performance and success in achieving its potential for impact, sustainability, and scale, while partnering with other leaders to achieve the overall organization’s objectives.


Responsibilities


Implementation of WSWC Service Model

  • Effectively manage, coach, and develop Impact department staff members (up to 5 direct reports), who collectively manage 30-60+ AmeriCorps members (numbers dependent on recruitment) .
  • Design and oversee execution of the department’s impact strategy.
  • Ensure the department meets all impact operating goals.
  • Align overall strategy and goals with capacity, community partner priorities and organizational priorities.
  • Work with Impact staff to create lead measures and benchmarks for annual goals.
  • Incorporate education reform best practices and evidence-based model improvements into WSWC service model.
  • Analyze evaluation data reports regularly with staff to further inform the implementation of WSWC and enhance the service model delivery.


AmeriCorps Member Learning and Development

  • Deliver a transformative, year-long learning and development program for AmeriCorps members.
  • Ensure the learning and development plan includes technical academic interventionist knowledge as well as civic engagement and leadership opportunities.
  • Work with the Learning and Development team to establish an evaluations roadmap to adequately capture and analyze the impact of our work in schools and with AmeriCorps members.
  • Lead efforts to identify opportunities to better utilize data to advance the organization.


School District Engagement

  • Partner with the Executive Director to manage the relationship with the administrative offices of our school districts.
  • Work with the Executive Director to negotiate all district and school financial contracts.
  • Develop and implement strategies around public education investment, AmeriCorps member deployment, deeper access to student level data, and integrating City Year into district professional development efforts.
  • Engage the school district (and other public education sector partners) in achieving the Long Term Impact plan.
  • Meet regularly with various academic district officials, including the Chief Academic Officer, Deputy Chief of Curriculum Design and Instruction and other network leaders.
  • Ensure memorandums of understanding and any other service agreements align with the service model at the schoolhouse level.


AmeriCorps Engagement and Compliance

  • Collaborate with the site’s primary point of contact with City Year headquarters and local state commission to complete required reporting
  • Maintain site’s adherence to AmeriCorps standards and national programmatic guidelines including grant reports as needed for AmeriCorps partners.
  • Oversee our site’s AmeriCorps grant and attend mandatory conferences and trainings as needed.


Organizational Initiatives & Site Support

  • Serve as a critical member of the senior leadership team.
  • Advise the Executive Director on impact, data and scale plans.
  • Establish policies and procedures within the Impact Department that are consistent with the organization’s mission and culture.
  • Work with key City Year Headquarters staff, Regional Impact leadership and Managing Directors of Impact at other City Year sites to stay abreast of best practices and contribute to programmatic improvements.
  • Integrate the Impact Department’s work stream, calendar, and priorities with the overall site goals and priorities to strategically leverage and plan with forethought.
  • Meet as needed with Impact Director, Impact Managers and AmeriCorps members regarding team management, accountability and standards issues.
  • Advise and support in managing disciplinary action regarding AmeriCorps members.
  • Devote up to eight days a year to AmeriCorps member recruitment interviews.
  • Collaborate with site staff and lead planning and execution of whole site events like Opening Day, MLK Day, Graduation, and other site-wide designated events.
  • Attend overnight events including potentially Basic Training Retreat, Summer Academy, and other events such as departmental training Superchargers as needed.

Full-time employees will be eligible for all benefits including vacation and sick days and organization holidays.
