    Job Title: Youth Programs Outreach & Engagement Manager

    Status: Regular, Full-Time (40 hrs/week)

    Reports To: Director of Youth Programs  

    Compensation: $65,000 – $70,000 DOE

    Classification: Exempt

    Home Office: Hybrid: Required to be in the office 3 days a week with hours from 8:30 am – 4:30 pm

           Remote, 2 days a week.

    The Mockingbird Society (TMS) is a non-partisan advocacy organization focused on transforming foster care and ending youth homelessness. We do this by creating, supporting, and advocating for racially equitable, healthy environments that develop youth and young adults at risk of or experiencing foster care or homelessness. 

    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Youth Programs Outreach & Engagement Manager will report directly to the Director of Youth Programs and will work in close collaboration with the Youth Programs Operations Manager to contribute significantly to our program delivery and advocacy goals. The successful candidate will be equipped with strong community outreach and relationship-building skills, curriculum development skills, project management skills, a commitment to program quality and continuous improvement, and a passion for youth development, community engagement, and advocacy.

    The Youth Programs Operations Manager works primarily out of our main office in Seattle and is directly responsible for developing and executing on an outreach plan with a top priority is building community-based partnerships in the four regional Youth Network chapters in Washington State: Puget Sound, Western/Peninsula, Central, and Eastern. The purpose of community partnerships is to establish networks of organizational support in the various communities in each region to facilitate and enhance Mockingbird’s reach and connections to young people with lived experience in foster care and/or homelessness.  

    ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

    Community Outreach & Engagement

    • Research and develop profiles for communities throughout Washington State, including potential partner organizations.
    • Build partnerships with State agencies and work with agencies to understand their districts and potential partner opportunities.
    • Develop a community outreach plan and implement community outreach to communities to introduce The Mockingbird Society; establish, grow and maintain relationships.
    • In collaboration with the Youth Programs Operations Manager, establish strategic engagement goals for Engagement Coordinators; facilitate connections between community agencies/organizations and Engagement Coordinators.
    • Analyze output data on engagement with emphasis on addressing racial/ethnic mix, rural/urban representation, LGBTQ+ representation, representation from young people with disabilities, etc.

    Community Trainings and Presentations

    • In collaboration with the Director of Youth Programs and the Engagement Coordinator, lead the development of public speaking curriculum.
    • Respond to speaking engagement requests.
    • Support speaking engagement logistics with Youth Programs staff and youth participants, including transportation and/or virtual meeting platform logistics, creating talking points, and planning events with external partners and the Youth Programs team.
    • In collaboration with the Director of Youth Programs and the Network Representatives, lead the development of public speaking curriculum.
    • Ensure the timely release and, in collaboration with the Communications Manager, the promotion of trainings and presentations. 
    • Conduct ongoing evaluation of community trainings and presentations.

    The Mockingbird Times

    • In collaboration with the Youth Programs team and the Communications Manager, manage youth contributions to The Mockingbird Times.

    Other

    • Support Youth Programs events as needed.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    • 5 years of experience with and deep knowledge of the issues and obstacles faced by youths and families involved in child welfare, juvenile justice, homelessness, and other macro-systems is preferred.
    • Experience with, and/or commitment to having, race equity, social justice, and LGBTQ/cultural competence be a workplace priority.
    • Successful track record in working with youth who have been impacted by the foster care system or other child welfare systems.
    • Excellent project management skills: ability to multitask, meet deadlines, and balance priorities.
    • Proven relationship-building skills with youth and young adults, colleagues, partners, and stakeholders.
    • Understanding of, and commitment to, youth/adult partnership philosophy.
    • Excellent interpersonal skills: ability to maintain a positive, professional, and service-oriented demeanor toward a variety of stakeholders.
    • Excellent presentation, facilitation, and public speaking skills.
    • Experience in curriculum development.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Experience in program evaluation, including data collection, analysis, and reporting.
    • Experience working with database systems, including queries and reports.
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
    • Proficiency with Zoom and YouTube Live.
    • Bachelor’s degree in social work or related field, or a comparable combination of education and experience. Master’s in social work, or equivalent experience, is preferred but not required.

    OTHER REQUIREMENTS

    • Upon date of hire, must be able to pass a Washington State and national criminal history check.
    • Ability to travel locally and occasionally statewide, with infrequent national travel for conferences and events. Must have valid driver’s license, appropriate insurance, and access to a vehicle or source of transportation for regular business use.
    • Available to work some evenings and weekends.
