    POSITION SUMMARY

    The Major Gifts Officer is responsible for providing leadership, strong direction, and strategic management for individual giving strategies to fulfill the mission and vision of Judi’s House and JAG Institute (JH/JAG). The Major Gifts Officer will be responsible for shaping donor stewardship efforts, deepening the prospective donor pipeline, and maintaining accurate and up to date information on organization goals, donors, and prospects. This position will report to the Director of Philanthropy and will interact with the CEO, organization founders, and Board of Directors.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Major Gifts Officer performs a wide range of duties:

    • Assist donors in accomplishing their philanthropic goals and ambitions through a relationship with our organization.
    • Maintain a working portfolio of individual major gift prospects and current donors with the goal of raising at least $1M annually, by securing major gifts ($10,000+).
    • Conduct personal visits with major donors and prospects, scheduling a minimum of 8-10 significant visits monthly for the purpose of field research, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
    • Develop individual donor strategies, along with materials, to renew and upgrade donor gifts.
    • Prepare written proposals, gift agreements, funder pitches, and other materials needed to define, secure and document major gifts.
    • Manage systems and software to track and cultivate donors and prospects, including our donor database and wealth screening tools.
    • Collaborate with the department to enhance relationships and create greater fundraising and outreach possibilities.
    • Create and implement moves management plans custom to donor interests.
    • Participate in each step of the donor pipeline including identification; qualification through research; cultivation; briefing; request for support; and prompt follow up, stewardship, and recognition.
    • Acknowledge major donors through public and private recognition.
    • Track and report progress using specific metrics.
    • Manage capital campaign payments to the conclusion of pledge term, steward capital donors, provide relevant reporting to internal stakeholders.
    • Oversee management of giving societies and annual stewardship plan.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • Promote the values of JH/JAG throughout the organization and external relationships.
    • Collaborate with Development team members on fundraising activities and events and contribute to a positive and generative team culture.
    • Attend team and organizational meetings, activities, and events as required.
    • Collaborate with JH/JAG staff and perform job duties to advance the organization’s mission and vision.
    • Demonstrate ability to work independently and within a team, seeking guidance as appropriate.
    • Comply with all organizational policies and procedures.
    • Commitment to JH/JAG mission.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree or five years of experience in related field.
    • Minimum two to four years in fundraising.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Experience with donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and building robust relationships with gifts of six figures and greater.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, and a proven ability to engage, motivate and inspire others to action.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
    • Consistent optimism and positive attitude.
    • Desire to support the work of others, including both staff and volunteers.
    • Respectful and thoughtful about bereavement counseling and the impact of this process on the constituency served at Judi’s House.
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and donor database management.

    Physical Requirements

    • Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk working on a computer
    • Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time.

    Other Requirements

    • Must possess a valid driver license and at least state required minimum of automobile insurance, clear DMV driving record and ability to provide own transportation.
