WHO YOU ARE

You are a self-Starter and team player eager to build relationships with various stakeholders in pursuit of developing community connections. You are ready to leverage a variety of tactics to establish community presence. You have demonstrated that you are a reflective practitioner and prioritize the needs of your students first and are committed to supporting programming and initiatives aligned to our organization’s goal to educate the whole child. You possess the following qualities:

  • Dedicated to working in communities that have historically been underserved and under-resourced
  • Committed to thoughtfully engaging in identity work necessary to take a culturally responsive approach to pedagogy and relationship-building with students and colleagues
  • Exceptional level of patience and focus to overcome challenges, and achieve results
  • Exceptional communication skills to share engage community partners, families and various community stakeholders in information sessions, partnerships meetings and other activities
  • Detail-oriented, and highly organized
  • Experience preparing written and oral information to share diverse types of information to various stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s Degree required with at least 3 years professional experience, including experience with managing projects

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The Family Engagement Manager is a critical member of the network Student Recruitment Team, who will partner with the team on planning and coordinating network driven initiatives that will build awareness about our schools and impact, in hopes of garnering the interest of prospective families. You will develop and manage a robust plan to support awareness and family engagement in service of student recruitment and enrollment. You will build relationships with families, community partners and other stakeholders to establish a rapport and develop partnerships that allow regular sharing of information. You will coordinate and manage opportunities for families to learn about our schools, and represent Explore Schools at recruitment events across Brooklyn. Your work will also strengthen family partnerships and elevate family participation and voice in our school programs. The Family Engagement Manager will be expected to manage the following daily:

Community Partnerships

  • Help build new partnerships with external partners and community-based organizations to support our network’s student recruitment efforts and that can help to ensure the holistic needs of our students and families are being met
  • Provide support to our student health and family wellness initiative, by supporting the research of the staff-led committee and helping to identify and vet potential partnerships
  • Help coordinate family scholarships to be dispersed across our school community to support summer enrichment activities
  • Coordinate community canvassing efforts for student recruitment for our network’s eight schools

Student Culture

  • Create materials and resources for schools that will help with student attendance and data knowledge management
  • Assist with Chronic Absenteeism Intervention Monitoring across our eight schools

Knowledge Management for Family Engagement & Student Services

  • Coordinate translation efforts of family-facing materials and communications
  • Serve as the lead for coordination of temporary staff, immunizations, vision screening, school nurse, transportation/OPT, school foods
  • Identify and curate fieldtrip opportunities for schools
  • Provide afterschool programming support to schools, as needed
  • Develop and coordinate family workshop opportunities across our eight schools
  • Data, Reporting & Compliance
  • Track and share out data insights around our community engagement across the communication platform Parent Square
  • Support with synthesizing recruitment & retention data for across our schools

Student Recruitment, Enrollment & Retention

  • Support Senior Director of Family and Community Partnerships with the development and execution of a networkwide student recruitment and enrollment plan
  • Monitor school level retention and withdrawal information across schools and help to develop action plans to address trends.
  • Support with student lottery management

Administrative Support

  • Assist with management of student recruitment, student retention and other data collected through PowerSchool.
  • Provide on-site school and event coverage, as needed
  • Help manage and develop communications to be sent out to Parents via ParentSquare
  • Support with student recruitment and enrollment management through SchoolMint
  • Actively engage in identity work and necessary conversations in order to dismantle white supremacy culture

LOCATION AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSExplore Schools is a network of 8 charter schools located in Canarsie, Crown Heights, and Flatbush communities of Brooklyn, NY. Our network office is located in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Our schools are currently operating fully in-person. For this position:

  • Some in-person work is required.
  • This is an exempt position and is not eligible for overtime.
  • The standard work week is 45 hours, though at times you may work more. For non-exempt roles, employees are eligible for overtime for any work over 40 hours.
  • As this role requires being able to go into our school buildings, which are co-located in DOE buildings, all staff members are required to follow the COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Please reach out to humanresources@explorenetwork.org if you'd like to see a copy of the mandate.
  • Depending on the time of year, some roles would require traveling to different school sites or our central office for training, observations, and in-service days.
