Executive Director - Arizona Small Dog Rescue

The Board of Directors of AZSDR seeks an experienced nonprofit leader to guide this no -profit, no-kill animal shelter into its next phase. The organization is currently stable with a committed board of directors, small staff, dedicated volunteer support, and good financial standing. You will have a unique opportunity to shape the vision for future growth while understanding and responding to community needs.

Compensation: $60,000-$80,000 annually depending on experience. $3000 relocation bonus after six months of employment for out of state candidates.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Employee management: Attract, onboard, retain, and terminate all staff to ensure a high quality of care for all dogs in our custody
• Fundraising: Seek and apply for relevant grants, organize fundraising events, and conduct donor outreach; onboard new donor management system
• Programs oversight and strategy: Monitor the results of current programs and dogs in our care; implement new programs from end-to-end, including ideation, gathering community input, securing funding, and administration
• Budget: Set and oversee adherence to monthly and annual budgets
• Stakeholder management: Define and balance the needs of different stakeholders, including and not limited to dogs, staff, volunteers, adopters/surrenderers, donors, and veterinary offices; this includes authorizing veterinary care and compassionate euthanizations
• Shelter operations: Partner with the shelter operations manager to ensure proper functioning of our facility, and if needed, execute her/his responsibilities

Skills & Qualifications:

• Passion for animal welfare
• 3+ years of experience managing a medium to large sized nonprofit organization, including budget, personnel, and facilities
• Demonstrated ability to set and meet individual as well as team goals
• Success and creativity in fundraising, including a track record of securing gifts or grants from individuals, businesses, and foundations
• Strong and compassionate interpersonal communication skills, and an enthusiastic public speaking presence
• Competency with common business software, including word processing, spreadsheets, and video conferencing tools.
