The Development Coordinator plays a critical role in the smooth and effective functioning of the Development Division at Conservation International, which is responsible for raising funds from private individuals and foundations. The Development team raises $50M-$100M annually and serves as relationship managers for donors of all levels to catalyze the resources needed for Conservation International to harness nature’s ability to mitigate climate change, bring ocean conservation to scale globally, demonstrate sustainability for nature and people in priority landscapes and seascapes, and to accelerate innovation in science and finance for conservation.
The Development Coordinator supports portfolio management and donor stewardship and cultivation activities, such as data and list management, mailings, prospect research, donor reporting, small events, gift acknowledgment, and administrative support. The ideal candidate is proactive and resourceful, demonstrating the utmost discretion and the ability to work independently.
Portfolio & Research Support:
- Ensure that all relevant information about donors & prospects within relationship manager portfolios is entered and updated in Raiser's Edge.
- Generate lists for review from Raiser’s Edge (e.g., mailing lists, regional and portfolio giving history).
- Conduct baseline research for new prospects as assigned to be used for donor strategy development by senior Development staff.
- Support research efforts for events including developing bios of event attendees.
- Assist with the development and finalization of high-quality proposals, concept papers, and reports for current donors and top prospects.
- Help identify opportunities for donor stewardship and outreach around CI priority programs.
- Assist with stewardship mailings and other activities, supporting relationship teams with the management of donors and appropriate prospects.
- Provide support for large and small cultivation and stewardship events (e.g., creating invitation lists, working with vendors, designing and producing invitations, managing and confirming responses, providing logistical support at the event, and executing post-event follow-up).
- Prepare for and execute logistical and administrative aspects of meetings, including taking minutes and distributing follow-up materials and tasks in a timely manner, as requested.
- Project manage divisional priorities and special projects as assigned, collaborating cross-divisionally as needed.
- Process expense reports and assist with booking and coordinating travel for senior Development staff.
- Perform related duties as assigned.

- The position is based in CI’s Global Support Center in Arlington, Virginia, and is classified as a hybrid position, meaning that the position is expected to work out of the office on average two days per week, and remotely on average three days per week.

- Occasional travel may be required to support relationship managers and fundraising efforts including events.

- 2-4 years of work experience.
- Proficiency in database operations, Microsoft Office applications, and basic computer operations.
- Excellent communication skills, ability to maintain confidential information, and the ability to manage multiple processes at a given time.
- Must be organized with strong attention to detail, proofreading skills, and the ability to work independently and within a team framework.
- Ability to function well in a multicultural, diverse, and fast-paced work environment.
- Ability to work effectively as a member of a geographically dispersed team and to communicate with staff at offsite locations. This includes comfort with communicating via phone, videoconference, etc.
- A Bachelor’s degree or up to four years of college-level work.
- Experience working with high-level executives.
- Experience with fundraising and development at an NGO.
- Familiarity with Raiser’s Edge or another fundraising database.
- Experience or Interest in global conservation.
