The Opportunity

The CompTIA A+ Instructor teaches a mixed-education level group of currently enrolled CEO participants, giving them the necessary information to prepare themselves to pass the CompTIA A+ exam. The Technical Instructor (TI) will deliver technical training classes in a virtual delivery format three days per week for a six month period (which weekdays are negotiable). This is a live instructor-led/synchronous learning platform, therefore, daily attendance and availability is required. The instructor should be someone who has a passion for training and supporting others from disadvantaged backgrounds. This includes modeling professionalism, empathy, and compassion for all learners and colleagues. As the instructor, you would be supported by a non-technical coach and report directly to the National Training Manager.

CEO's Staff Vaccination Policy

CEO has implemented an org-wide vaccination requirement that requires all new staff to be fully vaccinated before their first day of work. We have made this decision for the safety of our participants and employees and to enhance our ability to continue to provide the vital services we offer to our participants. As part of the onboarding process, new hires will be asked to submit proof of vaccination status prior to their first day of employment.

Who We Are

The Center for Employment Opportunities (CEO) provides employment services to people with recent criminal convictions. Across the United States, over 6,000 people participate in CEO each year, transitioning to employment that supports themselves, their families, and their communities.

What began as a demonstration project of the Vera Institute of Justice in the 1970s to address employment barriers facing the formerly incarcerated following release in New York City has grown into the leading reentry employment organization in the country, where over 25,000 formerly incarcerated individuals have secured full-time employment since 1996. In 2016, CEO embarked on a 5-year strategic plan to grow to serve 9,000 participants annually. 

The Nitty Gritty

These requirements are representative, but not all-inclusive, of the job functions required for this role. 

  • Instruct and develops curriculum for courses including CompTIA IT Fundamentals+ and A+ content
  • Provide quality and technically relevant instruction, assessment, and feedback in the areas of hardware repair, networking and operating systems.
  • Prepare all learners for entry-level IT jobs and certification prep
  • Provide daily group or 1:1 tutoring and grading services in partnership with the ATI
  • Provides hands-on training, ensuring thorough understanding and practice
  • Motivates students to actively participate in all aspects of the educational process
  • Support data-driven model by tracking and recording(in Salesforce) participant attendance and performance in class and on assessments.
  • Inform stakeholders of all student learners progress on a weekly basis
  • Provide superior customer service to every learner, colleague, and employer partner
  • Prepare lesson plans and update quizzes to ensure learners progression with materials
  • Ensure course and program learning outcomes are delivered as defined by the course curriculum and program expectation
  • Assist with on-going projects as requested.
  • Assist with course/program evaluation and continuous improvement.
  • Assist, as requested, in the marketing of courses to prospective participants by providing technical information regarding course content and assessing participant skills level.

Who You Are

  • You come with 1-3 years of teaching experience in a large group setting such as in a classroom setting or corporate training to end-users
  • You have worked and have training knowledge within IT. 
  • You have some industry recognized certifications in the relevant area of expertise are preferred. Example A+, Security+, Network+, Linux+ or CSA+.
  • You have implementation/deployment/development knowledge in respective product areas is a plus.
  • You come with a desire to excel in training
  • You are an excellent communicator with the ability to explain concepts in a simple manner.
  • You adapt your communication style to reflect and connect with the diverse experiences of participants.
  • You come with continued interest in keeping current with the latest industry trends and professional certification

Compensation and Benefits

This is a part-time role with a 6-month contract, it is anticipated that this person will work between 25-30 hours a week. The compensation for this position is $23.00 - $30.00/hour.  CEO's compensation philosophy considers a variety of factors including experience, internal equity, and the labor market associated with the city in which the position is located. This position can be located in any of the cities in which CEO operates. The labor markets associated with the cities in which CEO is based are variable, and the salary range included here reflects this. Our salary offer will fall within this range and will be reflective of the labor market of the city in which the position is based, as well the other factors named above.
