Technology Safety Specialist / Senior Specialist

The National Network to End Domestic Violence (NNEDV) is a social change organization dedicated to creating a social, political, and economic environment in which domestic violence no longer exists. NNEDV advocates for law, policies, and funding to address domestic violence, and provides training, technical assistance, education, and support to state/territory domestic violence coalitions, as well as local domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking programs, transitional housing programs, and the general public.

NNEDV seeks a Technology Safety Specialist to join the Safety Net Technology Project. This is a great opportunity for a committed team player to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

The Safety Net Project provides training, technical assistance, and support to victim service providers, including state/territory domestic violence coalitions; local domestic violence, sexual violence, and stalking programs; the civil/criminal justice system serving victims of intimate partner violence; and other stakeholders, such as courts, government, and technology companies. The Safety Net project focuses on the intersection of technology and intimate partner violence, sexual assault, and stalking, educating practitioners on how survivors and providers can address technology safety issues.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Provide national, state, and local trainings on the safe use of technology to local, state, and national advocates, legal professionals, judges, court personnel, and other allied organizations. 
• Provide in-depth assistance to victim service providers, including state/territory coalitions, local programs, and others victim providers such as law enforcement, attorneys, and criminal justice professionals via phone, email, virtual calls, and on-site visits.
• Write and create materials, including training curriculum, handouts, app and website content, and multimedia projects.
• Research emerging technology, technology policy, and victim safety/privacy topics.
• Assist in organization-wide communications efforts to enhance the visibility of the organization and the Safety Net project.
• Help sustain the Safety Net project by participating in external meetings and assisting in project-specific grant application writing and/or editing.
• Assist with other organization-wide activities and events (as needed).
• Advance NNEDV’s commitment to racial equity and inclusion on all levels, internally and externally as part of its core mission, ensuring that work is coordinated, effective, survivor-centered, and rooted in racial justice.

REQUIRED SKILLS, EDUCATION, AND QUALIFICATIONS

Specialist position requires 5 years of relevant work experience.

Senior Specialist position requires 7 years of relevant work experience.

A successful candidate will possess:

• Extensive experience working on issues of domestic violence/sexual violence/stalking, and be knowledgeable about the domestic and sexual violence service provider community, such as state coalitions, local programs (including community-based organizations serving communities who have been marginalized), civil and criminal justice system, and/or national technical assistance providers.
• Experience working with survivors experiencing technology-facilitated abuse or experiencing training on topics related to technology abuse, sexual violence, and stalking to victim advocates, law enforcement, judges, and/or civil and criminal justice professionals.
• Deep understanding of NNEDV’s and Safety Net’s mission and resources, and a firm commitment to survivor-centered, trauma-informed approaches to advocacy, accessibility, social justice, and inclusion. 
• Extensive knowledge about technology, safety, and privacy; and awareness of the disparate impact of the digital divide and specific concerns of communities who have been historically marginalized.
• Experience providing training and strong public speaking skills.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, including editing skills, and experience developing training materials/curriculum/PowerPoint presentations and/or providing technical assistance.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and effectively with a team, other staff, other organizations, and other professionals; work independently when needed; treat all people with dignity and respect; accept, act upon, and offer constructive criticism; and approach situations with a sense of humor.
• Strong organizational skills and be detail-oriented, and self-motivated; ability to pivot and prioritize in a fast-moving environment.
• Demonstrated ability to handle multiple tasks, manage time, evaluate progress, and adjust activities to complete tasks within established time frames and produce high-quality work.
• Demonstrated goal setting, problem solving, creative/analytic thinking skills, and organization skills.
• Excellent computer skills, including familiarity with advanced features of MS Office, particularly Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
• A desire to be part of a fun, supportive team that strives to help victim service providers, survivors, and technologists to minimize abuse and broadly increase safety and privacy.
• Demonstrated commitment to the organizational mission, including to anti-violence work, anti-domestic violence work, and racial equity and an ardent respect for domestic violence survivors.

DESIRED SKILLS/QUALIFICATIONS

• Attended Safety Net Training of Trainers, Technology Summits, or other trainings facilitated or presented by Safety Net staff.
• Bilingual skills (e.g., reading, writing, and speaking). (Spanish preferred.)
• Graphic design and/or video editing skills.

LOCATION

This position offers a flexible and collegial working environment in our offices on Thomas Circle in downtown Washington, DC, near McPherson Square Metro. Our office is currently open, but at this time, NNEDV employees may also temporarily work from home.

This position may require extensive travel at times when events are more frequently occurring in-person.

SALARY

• This is a full-time, exempt position.
• Minimum starting salary for the Specialist is $70,000, if based in the DC area.
• Minimum starting salary for the Senior Specialist position is $75,000, if based in the DC area.
• Minimum starting salary may be adjusted for experience and for remote-based staff based on locality outside of the DC area.
