▪ To coordinate, organize, and initiate services to refugees and immigrants through education, advocacy, support services, information, referrals, and networking opportunities to strengthen the community that we live in and to promote international understanding through intercultural exchange. US Together, Inc. (UST) is a statewide not-for-profit 501(c)(3) mutual assistance agency founded in 2003 as a response to the needs of refugees and immigrants throughout Ohio.

Immigration Attorney Position Overview:

▪ UST-CLE plans to hire an Immigration Attorney that will be primarily responsible for handling any/all immigration and/or legal service-related issues for newly arrived Afghan individuals/families resettled here in Cleveland, OH as a part of the local emergency response / resettlement initiative.

▪ This position will be primarily funded through the Office of Refugee Resettlement’s Preferred Communities (PC) Supplemental Program and Afghanistan Supplemental Appropriations (ASA) Legal Assistance Fund.

▪ This position will be responsible for managing the Afghan Legal Services Department, including a paralegal, while also coordinating with UST-CLE’s Afghan Case Management Team to ensure effective, timely legal service delivery.

Responsibilities Include, But Are Not Limited To:

▪ Handle all functions related to legal advocacy ranging from conducting intakes to the representing of clients before local, state, appellate and federal courts, and all relevant agencies including representing clients in immigration matters

▪ Oversee various processing related to immigration forms/applications – this includes but is not limited to the following: i.e. I-589s, Chief of Missions applications for SIVs, I-360s, I-485s among others

▪ Represent clients / cases in family based and humanitarian immigration legal matters in front of United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Patrol (CBP), the U.S. State Department, and the Executive Office of Immigration Review.

▪ Provide immigration legal services by serving as attorney of record for assigned immigration cases as needed.

▪ Place immigration cases with pro bono attorneys, prepare transmittal letters and case packets; Mentor pro bono attorneys, provide legal advice and assistance, and prepare sample forms, motions, and briefs; Follow-up with pro bono attorneys and mentors on status of cases assigned.

▪ Coordinate with UST-CLE Afghan Case Management Team and other relevant staff to ensure any/all related assistance services are provided in an effective, timely manner.

▪ Participate in program and agency community legal education and outreach efforts, particularly as they relate to issues of immigration law; participate in outreach activities, clinics, and other community events.

▪ Collaborate with other legal services attorneys on statewide advocacy; Promote community relations and build community relationships by engaging with the public and partner service provider

Position Requirements:

▪ Juris Doctor from an accredited law school and admitted to the Bar of the State of Ohio (or if not currently admitted, eligible to waive in) required

▪ Previous background / experience in Immigration Law

▪ Previous background / experience in non-profit administration assisting refugees and immigrants

▪ Proficiency in Dari/Pashto not required, but would be a major asset to someone in this position

▪ Demonstrated success working and communicating effectively in a multi-cultural environment

▪ Self- starter with excellent analytical skills combined with the demonstrated ability to multi-task, prioritize duties, and work

efficiently

▪ Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) as well as other database / software applications

▪ Valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle with current insurance, ability to drive an Us Together passenger van
