The ICCT is an award-winning, independent, global, non-profit research organization that supports the effective design and implementation of policies to address the impacts of the global transportation sector on climate change and public health. Our organization achieves this by providing high quality and timely data-driven research to public officials at all levels of government - city, state, national, regional and international - as well as to civil society and the media. The ICCT offers a mission-driven and culturally diverse workplace where intelligence, flexibility, transparency, and good humor are highly valued. Join our growing team of talented researchers with offices in Washington D.C., San Francisco, CA, Berlin, Germany, Beijing, China, New Delhi, India, and São Paulo, Brazil.

The ICCT is pleased to announce the opening of an immediate opportunity for a highly committed and self-motivated researcher to support the policy on clean fuels and vehicles in Brazil. This position provides an exciting opportunity for a master’s degree or PhD level individual, with five to seven years of experience, to pursue their interests in transportation, the environment, and energy-related topics in Brazil.

This position will support ongoing ICCT work in Brazil on fuels, biofuels, national vehicle emission standards, and other strategies to improve the environmental and energy performance of the transportation fleet in Brazil. This position will focus particularly on policy approaches and technologies necessary to reduce emissions from non-road transport sectors and heavy-duty vehicles, including advanced biofuels, hydrogen and electrofuels. The Researcher position will provide the opportunity to work at the intersection of technical climate analysis, public policy and technology. Representative work can be seen at the ICCT’s fuels program page. The position will also interact with international ICCT Staff.

To be successful in our environment, you must be intellectually curious, self-directed, and able to work with people from across the globe. The position is best suited to someone with inventiveness, creativity, resourcefulness, curiosity, and strong time management skills. The ideal candidate will bring knowledge of the transportation sector and environmental or energy topics, modeling and/or analytical skills, project management experience, written and spoken fluency in English and Portuguese, strong written and verbal communication, and a demonstrated interest in solving our most pressing global health and environmental challenges. This opportunity is based in São Paulo and best suits someone who is self-motivated, resourceful, creative, curious, and willing to work hard and learn fast.

  • Synthesize technical information into policy-relevant documents and presentations for both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Engage with external stakeholders, including government officials, non-governmental organizations, academics, and industry.

You Have:

  • A master’s degree in engineering, environmental science, environmental policy, energy and resources, or another relevant subject, in addition to at least three years of related experience.
  • Technical understanding of and interest in air quality, climate change, and transportation emissions, including vehicle and fuel regulations.
