The Community Church of New York, located on 35th between Park and Madison, is a liberal religious institution committed to building an inclusive, equitable community. In our 200 years of existence, we have been on the cutting edge of social movements, connected to the founding of both the NAACP and the ACLU, engaged in partnerships with freedom movements in India and South Africa, and more recently addressing climate activism, marriage equality, and racial justice. Our staff is multi-racial, multi-cultural, and multi-generational. We are looking for someone to grow our team and help us live into our mission.
POSITION: Director of Community Engagement
DIRECT REPORT: Senior Minister, Rev. Peggy Clarke
STATUS: Full Time, Non-Exempt. 40 hours per week.
SCHEDULE: Hybrid position. On site required most Sundays, Wednesdays, and at least one
other day of the week.
DESCRIPTION: Our Director of Community Engagement will be a kind, generous presence in our congregation, committed to building and retaining our membership through relationships and program development. Working as a member of our staff team, this person will accompany people from their first encounter with the church into congregational integration, designing and implementing programs that keep congregants connected with one another. They will also embed in our local neighborhood through partnerships with existing organizations, ensuring our presence in the larger community.
The ideal candidate will be extroverted, organized, and will work well in community. They will also be familiar with Planning Center and/or Realm, or be willing to learn. They do not have to be Unitarian Universalist, but should be familiar with and in general agreement with our core values of pluralism, generosity, justice, transformation, interdependence, and equity, with Love at the center of all we do.
SALARY: $80,000 - $90,000 annually
BENEFITS: Medical (90% family); Dental; Vision; Retirement; 4 Weeks Vacation (3 in first year)
