Reports to Deputy Director of Horticulture and Operations

Works with Art, Park and Sustainability Departments

Madison Square Park, a seven-acre urban oasis, is located in the heart of Manhattan’s Flatiron District at East 23rd Street between Madison and Fifth Avenues. Madison Square Park Conservancy raises the funds that support a program of commissioned contemporary public art, lush horticulture, Park maintenance, Park security and other free cultural programs.

Position summary

Art, Horticulture and Sustainability are the pillars of public programming at Madison Square Park Conservancy. Public Programs Associate works with Art, Horticulture, and Sustainability departments to implement all virtual and in-person public programs. The position will implement an annual schedule of free programs for Madison Square Park communities, overseeing all administrative and programmatic tasks including in-person and remote set up, contracts, correspondence.

Key Responsibilities

·       Public Programs Associate works in conjunction with commissioned artist and curatorial staff, Horticulture department and Sustainability department to implement vision.

·       Public Programs Associate will implement conceived programs including in-person, virtual and hybrid talks, performances, film screenings, tours, concerts, lectures, symposia, and events on and off-site. Programs are held on Zoom, in person, or livestreamed.

·       Maintain schedules, develop implementation plans, create work back timelines and supply lists, oversee requirements, procure permits, and maintain inventories of program supplies.

·       Public Programs Associate sends confirmation letters to participants, issues agreements/contracts, confirms fees, timing, dates, and accommodations.

·       Acts as main contact during programs and oversee all set-up and breakdown.

·       Coordinates tech rehearsals for all participants in advance of program.

·       Schedule support staff to implement programs.

·       Craft youth education guides for select exhibitions and public programs.

·       In collaboration with the Communications Department, draft visitor-facing communications, including listings and schedules for programs, and contribute to press and social media to promote public programs.


Qualifications


·       Bachelor of Arts degree or commensurate experience with knowledge of contemporary art, horticulture, and sustainability

  • Excellent written and oral skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft suite, Google Suite, Adobe Suite, Zoom
  • Detail-oriented and organized
  • Ability to work effectively on multiple projects and to meet deadlines
  • Ability to work collaboratively across departments and a willingness to be hands-on with the performance of a variety of assigned tasks. Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and new opportunities.
  • Past professional experience organizing events, in-person programs, Zoom and livestream programs 

Compensation and Schedule

Salary range is $45,000 - $58,000 based on experience.

Weekday schedule with evening and weekend work required, dependent on programs.
