Scientific Adventures for Girls (SAfG) seeks an experienced, self-driven, and creative Manager of Programs to lead our after school STEM programs for K-6th students.

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Manager of Programs will be responsible for the success of SAfG programming - ensuring seamless team management, program delivery, quality control and evaluation. The Manager of Programs will manage a growing teaching staff of 7+. The Manager of Programs will be one of the external faces of SAfG in the community.

This position is based in the San Francisco East Bay and is a partial remote, partial in-person commitment. This is a full-time, permanent, salaried exempt position.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Management and Development:

  • Manage Head Teacher, Assistant Teacher, and Volunteer staff who deliver after school and summer STEM programming.
  • Facilitate and encourage the growth of the professional learning community, both internally and with external partners. 
  • Establish and maintain an environment of continuous improvement. 
  • Provide ongoing training both internally to SAfG teachers and occasionally to external partners on STEM content, best pedagogical practices, equity topics in education and classroom management. 
  • Develop and implement a system to elevate the skill, experience, and professional development needs of all staff, including conducting weekly check-ins, coordinate and lead staff meetings, teacher observations, mentoring and coaching through constructive feedback and ensure quality control of the delivery of the programs. 
  • Serve as front line teacher contact.
  • Instill a sense of accountability among team members by modeling tight oversight of individual and organization performance standards.
  • Lead training and orientation of all teachers.

Program Management:

  • Manage, update, develop, edit, and produce SAfG curricula across all programs, including but not limited to After school, Library and Family STEAM Night programs.
  • Supervise Program Coordinators as duties relate to SAfG programming, including but not limited to the STEM activity teaching kit creation, supplies management and office management.
  • Participate in the evaluation of programs at all levels and lead effort to disseminate and digest results internally so as to improve program effectiveness and/or provide rationale for program revision/expansion. 

Teaching:

  • Teach one, in-person class per session
  • Serve as substitute Head Teacher in emergency situations, if needed

Leadership:

  • Lead by example. Develop deep understanding of SAfG mission and vision and demonstrate daily; draw upon this understanding for communicating direction and motivation for self and other team members 
  • Help cultivate existing relationships with schools, libraries and other program sites with the goal of continuing and growing SAfG programs at those sites.
  • Develop and implement strategies that will maximize the synergies among program areas.
  • Attend meetings as needed on behalf of SAfG related to programming.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

The successful candidate will lead programs and partner with the Executive Director.

  • At least 5+ years of experience managing staff of 4 or more
  • Experience teaching K-6th grade students
  • Undergraduate degree or higher, preference in STEM and/or Education
  • Experience creating STEM curriculum  
  • Experience offering professional development or peer-peer coaching and/or mentoring
  • Based in San Francisco Bay Area with the ability to travel to East Bay Schools for teaching, and training and management of teachers
  • Commitment to educational programming for girls
  • Very strong organization skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent communication skills, written and oral
  • Initiative to analyze and solve problems independently
  • Proactive, self-led 
  • Professional and accountable
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively
  • Ability to maintain an excellent work ethic
