The Center for Court Innovation is a non-profit organization that works to create a more effective and humane justice system by performing original research and helping launch reforms by guiding justice innovators, nationally and internationally. The Center creates operating projects that have been documented to reduce the use of jail and prison, assist victims of crime, and strengthen communities.

The Bronx Community Justice Center (BxCJC; Justice Center), one of the Center's newest projects, works to create a safer, more equitable Bronx through community-driven safety initiatives, violence prevention, youth opportunity, and economic development efforts. 

The Bronx Community Justice Center seeks a Program Manager, Community Organizing & Neighborhood Investment to lead our community organizing and youth led place-making initiatives with a strong focus on violence prevention, community safety and neighborhood revitalization. Reporting to the Associate Director, the Program Manager will lead community organizing, placed-based and place keeping strategies. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Manage a portfolio of place-based organizing and peacekeeping projects in the South Bronx;
  • Identify micro community “hotspots” through research, asset mapping, economic health and community needs assessments, and community engagement best practices;
  • Coordinate resources and develop an action plan to increase community safety and ownership in identified “hotspots” in the South Bronx;
  • Develop coordinated peacekeeping initiatives combining a mix of interest-based programs (with logic models), curriculums, lesson plans, interventions, installations and civic engagement tools including resource allocation, outreach and recruitment, retention practices, and assessments; 
  • Utilize community organizing strategies to mobilize the community to participate in efforts to change local norms towards violence and build community efficacy, with a focus towards youth;
  • Work closely with the Justice Center's youth programs and violence prevention teams to execute identified civic and community benefit (placemaking) projects;
  • Develop placemaking assessment tools and systems for existing and future placemaking projects;
  • Support the coordination of placemaking and restorative justice activities and events;
  • Identify, engage, and track potential internship, job training and job placement sites;
  • Coordinate the development of youth workforce development strategies and partnerships; 
  • Develop and maintain relationships with residents, tenant associations, housing management, local service providers, business owners, and program partners including, but not limited to, law enforcement, faith leaders, workforce development partners, and community stakeholders in order to identify and access resources for youth and residents most impacted by community violence;
  • Maintain a positive relationship with community stakeholders and businesses; 
  • Assist with internal audits, quarterly grant progress reports and other program reports as needed to ensure compliance of grant deliverables;
  • Attend community meetings and events and other partner meetings, as requested;
  • Actively maintain a work culture conducive to innovation and team building;
  • Model and facilitate creative problem solving and youth development strategies;
  • Additional relevant tasks, as needed.


  • B.A. (or higher) in urban planning, social work, or related field + 5 years of related experience OR equivalent experience;
  • Experience working closely with youth and families impacted by violence;
  • Mature grasp of community organizing and relationship building techniques;
  • Strong team skills and ability to work in a fast-paced environment;
  • Strong administrative and computer skills for timely comprehensive tracking;
  • Deep connection to and familiarity with the South Bronx, particularly the Morrisania and Mott Haven neighborhoods.  

Position Type: Full-time, Monday-Friday 11am-7pm. Some nights and weekends required.

Compensation: Salary is $66,500 and is commensurate with experience. Center for Court Innovation offers an excellent benefits package including comprehensive health, free basic dental coverage, vision insurance, short-term and long term disability, and life insurance. All healthcare benefits are effective on the date of hire. Paid time off includes 20 days of paid vacation per year, 15 paid sick days, Flexible Spending Account plans for health and dependent care, commuter FSA and offers a 10% employer match on the 403(b) retirement plan.
