AIEDU is hiring the first formal member of our External Affairs function to cultivate a world-class brand identity and reputation amongst the audiences we care about most: educators, administrators, policymakers, parents, and students. You will report directly to the CEO, working with him on a near daily basis.

Our External Affairs function encompasses Sales, Marketing, Customer Success, Thought Leadership, and Advocacy. You will partner with the CEO to advance projects and initiatives across all of these areas, with the biggest emphasis being on 1) Marketing (materials and video creation and strategic dissemination); 2) Thought Leadership (drafting editorials and other content, with your own byline, and also on behalf of AIEDU leadership as well as our corporate and philanthropic partners); and 3) Advocacy (which will involve research and tracking cutting edge developments in our issue areas and coordinating meetings with key stakeholders.

This is a remote role, with periodic (roughly quarterly) travel to AIEDU strategic retreats. Upcoming retreats are scheduled in Sonoma, CA, SXSW in Austin, TX, and ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego.

Core Responsibilities

  • Thoroughly delve into every corner of AIEDU, searching for stories to tell about our project, the students we are connecting with, the teachers we are inspiring, and the schools which are embracing AI education with us. Compile these stories into an array of external materials, including write-ups, interviews, videos, etc.
  • Run a bi-weekly meeting with the CEO to share new or develop existing ideas for PR, Thought Leadership, Marketing, and community engagement.
  • Create and manage a detailed list of all relevant events in AIEDU’s space, drafting and submitting applications for leadership.
  • Occasionally attend events to support AIEDU leadership, especially with regards to media engagement.
  • Develop and manage AIEDU’s content calendar across all of our owned properties (including aiedu.org, Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, etc.)
  • Create collateral, including marketing one-pagers, teacher pamphlets, PPT decks, etc.
  • Apply to grants and competitions on behalf of AIEDU leadership; for complex grant applications, coordinate with grant writers with our partner organizations.
  • Partner with our Creative Lead to improve our SEO and periodically audit and update our web copy to reflect the latest updates and progress.
  • Establish systems and processes to facilitate marketing and communications to partner and donor audiences (using CRM and email deployment software like Salesforce, Hubspot, Mailchimp, etc.)
  • Work cross team to plan and execute online and in person events with external stakeholders
  •  Evaluate and measure efficacy of marketing programs, campaigns, events and other communications efforts
  • Help plan and run support activities for corporate supporters’ employee engagement

About You

  • Bachelors or Masters degree
  • 1-3 years of experience in communications, marketing, brand, or a related field.
  • You are an exceptional and fast writer, with a portfolio of works demonstrating your ability to write in an accessible, compelling voice.
  • Experience working in or around politics, including campaigns; alternately, experience in investor relations or finance.
  • You have the ability to form compelling arguments, and articulate those clearly, both in written form as well as when speaking to a group.
  • You thrive in small, distributed teams with minimal in-person contact on most days.
  • You love to read about politics, the news, and other relevant topics that interest you.
  • Ability to manage input and feedback from multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong project management skills.
  • Extremely high attention to detail.
  • Experience with graphic design (nice to have)
  • Familiarity or background in educational communications or technology media (nice to have)
