About the Position

The Institute for Governance & Sustainable Development (IGSD) is seeking a part-time (20 hours per week) Accounting Manager for IGSD’s India Program to assist in the  oversight of the financial management, accounting, and compliance of all grant-funded programs and projects within the IGSD’s India Program portfolio. This role combines comprehensive accounting duties, including non-profit and grants accounting, with grants administration, ensuring proper fiscal stewardship, adherence to funder requirements, and seamless financial operations. Duties will be performed in coordination with the greater IGSD accounting team.

The position is for the period of June 15 – December 31, 2024, with the possibility of an extension based on performance. This position is remote with a strong preference for candidates who are in or near the Washington, DC, area.

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of two years of experience in grants management and non-profit accounting.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles, practices, and relevant software/systems.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite and accounting software.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

A)    Grant Management:

  • Develop and monitor grant(s) budgets, ensuring accurate allocation of funds and tally accounts in line with the guidelines described in contracts for disbursal of funds.
  • Track, report, and tally grant expenditures, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping from corresponding expense items for projects.
  • Collaborate with program staff to ensure grant funds are spent according to approved budgets and timelines.
  • Conduct monthly financial reconciliations and budget forecasting for grant-funded projects; these reports are to be provided both to India Program Director and IGSD Director Finance & Administration.
  • Prepare as needed, detailed financial reports, process reimbursement requests, and manage payables based on staff contracts and payment schedules.

B)    Accounting and Financial Reporting:

  • Maintain accurate financial records and ledgers related to grant activities and general accounting operations.
  • Coordinate with India accounts payable firm and IGSD accounting team, ensuring timely processing and reconciliation; provide monthly forecast of needed cash transfers to IGSD accounting team.
  • Maintain comprehensive audit paperwork and financial documents in a secure location, including copies of all invoices, contracts, and correspondence.

C)    Grants Administration and Compliance:

  • Monitor grant agreements, terms, and conditions, ensuring compliance with funder requirements in coordination with the IGSD accounting team.
  • Support the leadership of the India program on grant-making decisions based on financial disbursals, addressing inquiries, and providing updates.
  • Maintain comprehensive grant records, including agreements, reports, and correspondence.

D)   Additional Responsibilities:

  • Work with compatible accounting software and systems, ensuring efficient financial operations.
  • Assist with the transition to new entities or organizational changes, as required.

 The Accounting Manager will work closely with the Director of IGSD’s India Program and will support the Program’s strategic financial planning.  Moreover, additional oversight of this position will be provided by the IGSD Director of Finance & Administration.
